He (it's unlikely to be a woman) called you "Dear One" which is a sure sign of an email sent out to many people. He has no interest in you as an individual.
it's easy to send out bulk emails so the scammer is still emailing you in the hope you might still send him money. He won't be upset if you don't.

Hi Poorlady, You will be fine. Notice in that last email, the scammer is very focused on explaining why YOU need to pay money and trying to find out how much you can afford. He has gotten to the point when the scam turns into the scam - asking for money. That is the bottom line, the rest of the communication was to gain your trust and to gauge your level of trust in him. He thinks you trust him because you gave him your personal information so now he is moving into the point where he asks for money.

He is not interested in personally attacking you in any way...he just wants your money. He might threaten you. But the threats are meaningless. As others have said..just hold strong and do not respond to him in any way.

Hi coolio_g, Welcome to scamwarners. Firstly take a big breath and let it out slowly. No one is coming after you and it is extremely unlikely that the scammer will empty your bank account. Scammers like to steal money while their worthless behinds are planted securely in a comfy seat in an internet cafe.

It sounds as though this particular scammer is trying "flash" your bank account. Basically your account will be credited with fraudulent funds. Your bank will later reverse the transaction when they discover that the transaction is fraudulent. I suggest that you either ignore all further communications from the scammer or simply tell him/it that you have sold the item to someone else and it is no longer available.

Hi coolio_g, Welcome to Scanwarners! In addition to Peta's great advice, you should contact your bank and let them know about what happened. You might want to close the account and open a new one, or get the bank account number changed. Also be aware of the possibility of identity theft and check for suspicious activity on your credit report. You bank should be able to advise you on how to do that.

Thanks so much people...
I had filed a police report and closed the bank account as well as applied a new one. I should have done earlier.
According to the bank officer, the current trend is scammers now would hold on to ur details (esp bank account) and wait to strike when you have forgotten about it. Meaning you would only realize whats going on after some time in between.

Thanks again to you all. I didn't know there to look for help. Luckily I manage to find this site. I think I should do a simple blog post and have it link to this site to help more people.

I'm glad to hear you got it all worked out without losing any money. When it comes to scams like these, the authorities just can't stop them from happening, so education is the best defense--the more awareness there is, the fewer victims there will be.

Thank you! The more the word gets out, the more people we can help. If someone comes here BEFORE they lose money, it's better for them and worse for the scammer. And that's all good. :D
