HI I am in SA and i was involved in a romance scam with someone i met on dating site who lives in Londond. i think that is what it is now anyway, although i did not want to believe it at all. I am a typical lonely old divorced woman who was ready to believe loving words. Anyway it all lead to the man in London wanting me to receive travellers checks into my post box on his behalf and then send the money to him once i had cleared them , so to speak. Fortunately for me none arrived, maybe after i wrote and told him i would send anything delivered to my postbox to the nearest poilce station..( i did research, you see). So he can see i am no-ones fool. Although before all this i gave him my bank account number, but not ID number than goodness, and he knows everything about me including my physical address.. that is how much i trusted him. I stay friends with him from my side, as a cover for my own safety. i have not lost anything, yet, from the communication. But he no longer communicates anyway. Fact is , i have more proof now of the scam from this website. When he asked me to clear checks for him he gave me a cell number which did not work for voice calls and so i googled the number and found that it belonged to alessia johnson who was advertising a room/flat in London. So i now have proof that i was nearly scammed.. but i have to be careful still so i would prefer not to be posted anywhere. 'They' know where i live alone. I see that the rental adds that so called alessia put up is no longer existing. I want to thank you all for helping me come to a more definite realisation.

Welcome here caritas.

I'm sorry that you got scammed, but fortunatly, you didn't loose any money on this scammer. I can understand that you are very carefull and don't want to reveal too much because the scammer has your address. But you don't have to worrie. The scammer lost intrest in you, otherwise he would have continued to write you. He won't spend his time finding your home and pay a visit, he's too busy scamming other people. We would appreciate it if you post the emails from this scammer here. But if you still have some doubts in doing that, you can PM the emails to me and i will post them here.

Being a victim doesn't mean you stand alone. We're here to help you.

Hi Caritas, welcome to Scamwarners,

I am glad you were able to find out that it is a scam before you lost any money.

While it is not ideal that this scammer has your details it isn't the end of the world either.

My advice to you is; (after following the advice above)

Talk to your bank without delay and let them know you bank account details have been compromised, they can and will change them without a problem.
Ignore this person completely, from what you have said he has stopped emailing anyway so it shouldn't be too hard, scammers lose victims all teh time so it is nothing new to them, just stop all communication immediately and do not reply no matter what they send you

This scam is still going on, I just got a message from them giving the same story, thought it was too good to be true, googled the name and it led me here... Well done, you do GREAT work!
