Hi Local, Welcome to Scamwarners! If you are sure they are scam sites, you can post as much information as you want. If you were scammed by these people, you can post up emails and any other details on the scam and the scammers, just make sure that you edit out your own personal details. Posting up the information on the scams just might prevent somebody else from becoming a victim.

Welcome.
The first site was set up on 21st June 2009 for only one year, and the second in 1997 due for renewal in 2011.
So the first needs more study, but the second is almost certainly legit. What makes you think they are connected?

Hi Local

Welcome to Scamwarners

Even if you are not sure it will do no harm to post up details, we have some members here who can tell in no time at all if it is fake or not.

Any information that may involve legitimate companies can be deleted fairly quickly if innoicent parties are wrongly accused of being scammers

After looking at the first I have to say it look realistic, one thing i noticed was the phone number which seemed legit to me as well

However
a search on the site name and including the word scam brings up some interesting results

In particular this link Here shows information on an appartment scam, the same site also has advertising by the site in question.

I am presuming the site is real however perhaps one of the advertisers using there service is not legitimate.

Do you have specific details on the property you were looking into?

the registrant address of homefromhome is the same as the "office" address of london-holidaylettings which is a hair dressing shop.

Thank you for all your replies and support, I'll defer posting any more details until Monday until I have confirmation from all parties concerned.

Hi Local

I have just sent you a Pm but for the benefit of the others who will be working on this while I sleep I will post the bulk of it here as well

was the money paid to the website or to the property owner

I suspect the website is legit, even though the address leads to a hairdresser, being a website it is most likely little more than a person sitting at a computer so it could be anywhere

we do know however that many of the advertisers of these properties are scammers and that is what i suspect in this case

I am off to bed but if you could post the property address or email address / phone number of anybody your friends have contacted we may be able to better advise you

I'm not sure how much to post, can an admin contact me?

I've had a tame site killer at 419eater look at these and here's their initial findings

london-holidaylettings.com
  • Registered on 21 June 2009 for 1 year.
  • Site claims to be (c) 2008 although only set up in June.
  • Registrant details are incomplete and do not appear to relate to the details given on the website.
  • Site claims to be owned by a limited company called Lettings Angels Ltd. They do exist as a registered company, with the address given on the website.
  • Some of the testimonials are stolen - http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserRevi ... gland.html this is meant to be the Mayfair apartment on the site. The addresses don't tie up.
I would say a fake site using a legitimate company's name to make themselves look legitimate. I will try and contact Lettings Angels on Monday to see if they admit to the site being theirs.

homefromhome.co.uk
  • Registered since 1997 in the name of a limited company, which checks out at Companies House.
Legitimate site, but could be a scammer piggybacking - are emails coming from a hfhmail.co.uk address or a freeby account?

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

I am happy to say it is a scam based only on the insistence of a Western Union transfer, no legitimate companies will use Western Union
I will look into the details and do some searching in a couple of hours when I can use my home PC
