We close down paid for domains because they add an element of legitimacy to the scammer.

Free email addresses such as gmail/yahoo etc we leave alone as it provides a means for victims to trace the scammer and are much easier for the scammer to set up.

We will also need the header of the email (just remove your personal details).

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

This woman or man is at the other end of a vw caddy I was trying to buy off gumtree it sounded to good to be true so I put her email in the search bar and it led me to this site. Here's how it went.

Hello,
The Volkswagen Caddy is still for sale in excellent condition, with no damages or any faults. All necessary documents available. My current location is Scotland due to my work commitments. If this is going to be a quick sale, I will let it go for £3,190 delivered at my costs.
The deal will go through eBay and PayPal.
Thank you

Evelyn

Me:Sounds great would you be delivering it yourself?

Sent from my iPhone

I have a local transport company Shiply that will take care of delivery.

Me:Ok but I wouldn't feel comfortable buying the vehicle without actually seeing it first

Sent from my iPhone

Due to my location and since view is not an option I agree for a 5-7 days of full inspection period ( after the date you receive the van ). This means that you have 7 days to inspect the van for any damages and decide if you want to keep it or not!
Because I will sign eBay's return policy, your money will be insured by them and you will have the option to reject the deal, only if we go through PayPal as well. If this is the case, you will receive a full refund (money back) from PayPal and I will have to take the van back on my cost!
You can read more about it following the link below:

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/contex ... olicy.html

Let me know if the above return policy is acceptable and if you want to purchase the van please confirm your PayPal email for further instructions.

Evelyn

Me:Ok if you deliver the van here I will give it a quick inspection then if I'm happy with the van ill transfer the money over instantly .if the van is what you say it is then the transaction will be smooth.

Sent from my iPhone

I will not be able to arrange cash on delivery service but eBay will provide us a safe and convenient way to proceed.

Me:I didn't say cash on delivery it will be through paypal when I've checked it.

Sent from my iPhone

But I am not coming myself to offer you this option

Me:I'm not going to pay for something I can't see. If the van gets delivered here the money will be payed while the shipping firm are still in possession of the vehicle, if I'm not happy with it then I will pay for the return of the vehicle. But like I said before if it is as you say It is then the transaction will be smooth.

Sent from my iPhone

Viewing orp ick up is not available at the moment this is the main reason I want to do it with eBay and PayPal, I am offering free delivery and a full inspection.

Evelyn

Me:Like I said it will be through eBay or pay pay

Yes.

Me:Then the money will be paid when the van has arrived

Sent from my iPhone

And that was that! Theses people are very crafty and good at what they do, I've been scammed before, but like the saying goes if it sounds to good to be true then it usually is. Hope this helps

From the fake PayPal - from [email protected] actually sent from [email protected]

Dear XXX,

Thanks for using PayPal.

The seller has requested the payment through PayPal and we offered to cover all the risks for you and the seller.
It is our responsibility to inform Buyers about our Sellers. You are dealing with a verified PayPal member, protected by our PayPal services such as insurance and dispute resolution, and you may buy and sell with confidence in all eBay transactions with this seller.

You should proceed accordingly to complete the transaction in a safe manner.

The following is a notice from PayPal Trust & Safety Department regarding:

Item Title - Volkswagen Caddy Sportline Tdi
Item Number - 141170452889
Item Price - £3,100.00

Buy safely using eBay's Buyer Protection Program
This vehicle is eligible for up to £10,000 in Buyer Protection when your transaction is completed through PayPal
It may take a few moments for this transaction to appear in your account.
For any questions contact PayPal Live Support by clicking here

Complete the transaction in 5 easy, secure and safe steps!
1. eBay accepts the transaction and offers purchase protection to the buyer (if the transaction is declined, no further action is required from either the buyer or the seller);
2. All information received will be processed by PayPal under the direct review of eBay Inc.
3. The Buyer follows instructions and sends the payment to the assigned PayPal representative bank account.
After the payment is cleared and verified by PayPal under the review of eBay Inc, it will be secured into a non-interest bearing trust account. Payment being secured, the Seller is notified by PayPal to deliver the vehicle to the Buyer. The Seller has 5 (five) business days to start the deliver procedure. The seller must deliver the vehicle for inspection along with the certificate of title, signed Bill of sale in the Buyer's name, all keys and all ownership documents. The vehicle must be delivered along with all documentation requested by the Buyer in order to allow him to change the registration in his name as soon as he will decide to accept it after the inspection period will be over.
If no delivery procedure is started, a full refund is immediately sent to the Buyer.
As soon as the delivery procedure will start, the Buyer should wait for the vehicle and documentation to be delivered. 4. After the inspection period is over, the Buyer must contact PayPal with the result of the inspection of the vehicle.
The Buyer receives the vehicle and has 5-7 (five-seven) business days to inspect it. The inspection period will not begin until PayPal has confirmed delivery of the vehicle by either Buyer’s or shipper’s notification.5. If he refuses it a full refund is immediately sent to the Buyer if the reason that determined the Buyer not to keep the vehicle is strictly related to the vehicle's condition i.e (different from what the seller has advertised, described and agreed to sell to you).
The Seller will have the obligation to make all necessary arrangements in order to take the vehicle from Buyer’s possession in maximum 3 (three) business days.
If the vehicle and documentation are as advertised, described and agreed, the Buyer should accept it. If the Buyer accepts the vehicle, the payment will be sent to the Seller within 3 (three) business days.

How to proceed from this moment?

The conventional method of transferring funds to a PayPal member cannot be used due to the large amount that must be paid.
Payment must be submitted via bank transfer to the PayPal representative bank account assigned for this transaction. PayPal will secure the payment until the Buyer receives, inspects and accepts the vehicle. Or, if it is the case, PayPal will refund the payment to the Buyer.

Protecting the security of your payment is our primary concern.

ebay inc. (gumtree) autotrader............. are in breach of section 35 (4) of the fraud act 2006 :

Fraud by abuse of position.

(1)A person is in breach of this section if he— .
(a)occupies a position in which he is expected to safeguard, or not to act against, the financial interests of another person, .
(b)dishonestly abuses that position, and .
(c)intends, by means of the abuse of that position— .
(i)to make a gain for himself or another, or .
(ii)to cause loss to another or to expose another to a risk of loss. .
(2)A person may be regarded as having abused his position even though his conduct consisted of an omission rather than an act. ..

the authorities have lots of catching up todo to catch the fraudsters only for another crime ring to take there place , as people who seek out scams and report them say, EBAY INC/GUMTREE AUTOTRADER......... are breaking the law by causing me unneccesary risk to loss and will one day have to compensate every victim for there time, stress, money etc .

My friend has been scammed by the evelyn.bandoline lot to the tune of £5k. He paid it into a bank account at metro bank, account number 13430594. My question is that this account number is featured above as provided by paypal fraud dept. If the bank know that the account is used for fraud are they bound by British banking law to suspend the use of it and therefore no bank transfer can be made to it? if so how who I go about finding out when a bank was informed of the fraudulent use? Any help would be great

pumbahawes wrote:My question is that this account number is featured above as provided by paypal fraud dept.

It was provided by a scammer claiming to be PayPal

pumbahawes wrote:If the bank know that the account is used for fraud are they bound by British banking law to suspend the use of it and therefore no bank transfer can be made to it?

How do they know for definite that the account is being used for fraud if it hasn't received any fraudulent payments. If it has never received any money and is the account of a legitimate customer they may not do anything - only the bank can say whether they were aware the account was being used and what they did about it - and they won't release that information to anyone but the authorities or their regulators.

pumbahawes wrote:If so how who I go about finding out when a bank was informed of the fraudulent use? Any help would be great

See above, unfortunately they can't. Your friend could however mention in their report to the police that it appears that the account has a history of being presented for fraudulent use.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

i was refering to your post on thurs 20th at 3.21pm. regarding the bank details provided by paypal support etc. Where did that info come from? It is just my friend had not been scammed at this point so whoever provided that info could be vital to him to prove that Metro KNEW that the account was a scam account before he sent them money.
by AlanJones Thu Mar 06, 2014 3:20 pm
The account was sent to me by the scammer pretending to be PayPal as he thought that I was going to send him money. It was reported to the authorities, but as I hadn't been scammed out of any money, I can't say what action (if any) they or the bank will have taken.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Thanks to the information posted here, I've been able to avoid wasting any more time sending emails to [email protected]

This time it was a 2010 VW Transporter posted on Gumtree Northen Ireland (as a featured advert)

I received a text message, in response to my initial phone call & voice message, which directed me to gumtree-contact.com (though using a URL shortener so I didn't twig at first that it wasn't gumtree). The message I sent through that site was responded to by Evelyn with the familiar Scotland email.

I reported the advert to gumtree last night, but as of 11am this morning it's still there
