I read the Frugal Traveler's column in yesterday's NY Times. He got scammed on a rental in London. Then I started to think about my upcoming vacation rental that I got from CraigsList. Bad news. I checked the phone number on Google. Bad comments about dealing with this number. I did send an electronic bank transfer to the person's bank in NYC. Another big mistake. I should have checked the phone number before I agreed to send a deposit and cleaning fee. I should have used a credit card rather than an electronic transfer. My rental agreement says I can get my money back. But I don't think that will happen. I've had two good experiences with getting vacation rentals in NYC and London. I will not use CL again. I got burned.
