HI All --
I think I may be a potential victim here but smell enough of a rat not to fall for it. So I want help in "outting" this one. I have a Sgt. Walker Brands who says is in Syria. He is on a dating site called SKOUT as "lonleysoldierman" which is an app I thought to join for the heck of it. He says he is 44 but looks way younger. He says is a widow with a 10 year old daughter and lost both parents. He has sent pics every time I have asked for them. They are of the same guy. Except for one that looks like it may or may not be the same one. I have asked for ones taken like right then and there of what he is doing. I have asked of ones from back home etc. He is supposedly in Syria. I have talked to him via SKOUT and also Yahoo IM. He said the only way to talk on the phone is to use a satelite phone. But he can get internet ... so i ask can he Skype. He says no they aren't allowed due to security measures. One day for grins I "accidentally" tried to use yahoo IM video chat call button. He got kinda angry stating that I was going to get him "sanctioned" or "reprimanded" or something. Now he says they are moving his unit to another village/territory that doesn't have internet and that he is sooooo worried about losing touch with me that he wants to get a satilite phone. Its 300 bucks for supposedly 5 mos of usage / unlimited. I told him I wasn't going to pay for it. I then at least said that I would think about it IF he would pay 1/2. He said he would pay 100.00 of it "first thing" in the moorning. Ok so I had to email a [email protected]. I couldn't find anything on the web about Global Net or techie.com on line. HE says it is because it is a private contractor/supplier for sat phones due to the security needs around Syria. Its "western union" only and starts off as "application received" and the following {cke_protected}{C}{cke_protected}{C}{cke_protected}{C}

Anyway, I don't know enough about military protocol to know what communications are allowed and not.

So I need to know if this sounds like a scam.... what other questions to ask to know for sure and to not be too obvious about asking.... and also where to look at pictures that have been used for these scams to see if I see him. Please let me know asap!

No questions necessary - it's already a proven scam.

The US military provides soldiers with the opportunity to talk on the phone-they do NOT have to buy a satellite phone to speak to their loved ones. The whole "you have to send money for a sat phone to talk" scenario exists only in the fictional military of African scammers.

He says he is 44 but looks way younger.

The scammer is not the man in the photos. Most likely, he has stolen all of the photos from a soldier's myspace or facebook page or photo-sharing site. The person whose photos he has stolen most likely IS way younger.

He says is a widow with a 10 year old daughter and lost both parents.

Typical scammer background here.

Ok so I had to email a [email protected]

techie.com email addresses are free email addresses from mail.com. They are not affiliated with any company. Anyone can sign up for one of these addresses. The address was chosen to make it seem more real.

How do I post the photos he has sent me AND is there somewhere I can go to view others to see if I see any others of him?

At this point what would you recommend I do? Just not respond and cease any other contact?

Or would I ask any other questions to "out" him even more and if so .. what??

He's already fully "outed." Showing suspicion will only encourage him to tell more lies--after all, that is what he does for a living--lie to women and steal their money.

The best thing to do is to cease all contact with him. Post his email address here, and his early emails to you--these emails are generally scripts that he will reuse over and over again--sometimes under multiple names and email addresses. Posting the scripts themselves may help others who are being scammed.

There are instructions for posting photos in my signature line.
You can look for other cases of the photos being used by using google image search and tineye. Both search engines have indexed photos on many sites on the internet and can show you if the photos are on any of those sites. Neither search engine has indexed the entire internet, so NOT finding results does not mean that the photos aren't used somewhere, though.
