This scam seems so bona fide except for the ludicrously low price offered for a late model motor vehicle.
Whoever is running it must have procured the USA drivers license and passport of an 81 year old man, Richard Saidel Burton At first I was sucked in by 'him' offering to accept payment for the vehicle when it was delivered from Cyprus to my door in Northern Iraq. I gave him my name, passport number and expat ID number before discovering his name on Scamwarners today. Just in time. I have telephoned the Police in Cyprus and given them details but they are not hopeful of finding the scammers. The phone number the scammers are using at present is: 0035796697666. They also gave me a cargo carrier's name: http://www.cgcarriersaltd.com and a contact email: [email protected] . Evidently they are primarily after the $US1500 shipping fee which they want up front.

I'm glad you found the warning before you lost any money!

Scammers often convince people to send identification, including passports, when they are pretending to be offering something -for example, a loan scammer, job scammer, sweepstakes scammer or rental scammer may demand a copy of a passport. They will then re-use the ID they obtained in their other scams. Undoubtedly this is the case here, and the owner of the passport will be another (former or current) victim.

I am removing most of the victim information so that it cannot be picked up and used by other criminals for identity theft.

The cargo carrier website will be a fake, and our site killers will want to take care of that. If you can post the email from the "shipper", with the headers, it will help them in gathering the evidence needed to have the site shut down.
