We started communicating through the Christianmingle.com email, then moved to IM, email, and phone. He seemed nice, honest, trustworthy. We talked almost every day via IM or email. For a few weeks he would call me every morning to say hi. We had long conversations, talked about family, work, things we liked to do. Didn’t seem too unusual, except that he never asked to meet in person. Said he was really busy at work. Hours were normal hours, he was supposedly in San Francisco. He would avoid questions, about specifically where he was in the city. Would cleverly change subject. Said he had a house in South Tahoe.
• Two boys (Michael 10 and Lucas 8 )
• His mom lived in Spain with his boys
• Was married 8 years, wife left for college boyfriend
• Divorced 3-4 years ago
• Works in oil and gas

He would tell me he had a project go bad, needed to fly out to Texas to fix problem. Then he started calling me at hours a bit later. Said he was in meetings with Malaysia, needed to get parts. Was trying to raise money. Couldn’t get paid until he replaced bad parts. (Sounds so silly now.)

He started telling me how much he loved me. He was a romantic, smooth, knows how to work the call. Hit all your emotional spots. He is good. He would ask to see me on camera. I would ask to see him, of course it wouldn’t work. He did show me on two different occasions. We would talk intimately, he said he wanted to marry me, called my his wife.

Then end of Sept. he started asking for money. I was so mad after the first one I did. Couldn’t believe I did. Was totally torn up about it. He promised to pay me as soon as he finished his install. (For some reason, I believed him.) Still talked almost every night, now it’s getting later and later, not until about 10:30-11pm, then we would talk till about 1am (PST).

Sometime around the weekend of Nov. 17/18, I think he left to head to Abu Dhabi. I finally got him to admit it only after a woman called me on Nov. 26. She asked if I knew how to get a hold of Ken Butte. In the back of my head I knew something was up, but I just couldn’t believe it. I even asked Ken about it, made comments about it, he always had a smooth story or a way to get me to feel at ease. She asked my relationship, and I said “girlfriend”. She was paying his phone bill, and other expenses. She saw my number come up frequently via calls and text messages. Ken told her I was a business associate.

We quickly realized he was playing both of us. We compared notes. I confronted Ken that night about knowing he had another woman on the side, I asked what was going on, how many more, etc. He denied anything was going on with her. Said he loves me, I am the one he wants to marry me, blah blah blah. Things started cooling down, I didn’t hear from him as much. He told me the woman was crazy, and that I should not listen to her. I should follow my heart, etc.

Once I knew he was contacting me from Abu Dhabi, our hours got really strange. I now knew he was 12 hours different. Either he was calling me all hours of the night before, or he was closer than UAE. The yahoo connection was really bad, would cut out and get really slow… supposedly. In the end, I ended spending $42,000 from wire transfers and sending computers. I can't believe how gullible and stupid I was.

The other woman and began to investigate the Internet and found all these profiles with his picture in them i reported him to christianmingle and his profile was removed, the other social websites refuse to do anything about them.

Welcome to Scamwarners but I'm sorry it was under such sad circumstances.

Don't feel foolish Romance scams draw in millions if not billions of dollars every year, the people who perpetrate them are very good at manipulating people and knowing exactly what to say.

If anyone contacts you saying they can get you your money back do not entertain them it is just another scam.
