Hi there,
I have just discovered this week that we have been completely sucked in by "Sydney J Stewart" and his Fiat Ducato Campervan "sold" on E Bay from "Cadiz" - we are now £5k lighter :(
I still can't believe it and am so upset and angry that it happened in the first place - I'm usually such a cautious person and have spotted scammers in the past.
We have successfully bought a campervan before via E Bay so when we saw the add we were pretty interested - it seemed to tick all the right boxes. Even the mention of doing the whole deal through (what we thought was) E Bay put us at ease and in our keeness to secure the "deal" we went along with the whole thing - it never crossed my mind once that it could be a scam.
I feel so sorry for my partner who parted with the £5k - he is beside himself at the moment and I am doing my best to try and cheer him up.
I feel compelled to share my story with others and have even thought of starting up my own website called "Friends of Sydney Stewart" where info could be shared between other victims.
I'm pretty convinced that this person has been around for a while and has a fairly complicated set up with several scams going on at the same time under different names.
I feel compelled to try and do something about this (am not sure exactly what yet and am not particularly pc literate either) so have embarked on what is probably going to be a long and arduous journey to find out more about this particular individual.

Hey there, WOW, I'm glad I googled this Sydney guy....and thank for posting this experience for all of us to see.

I am currently selling an item on ebay......and he replied to me with this email:

Hi XXXXXXXXXXX

I am very interested in your listing, but i first need to know how can I pay for the XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX|Item:XXXXXXXXXXXX to be sure. Sorry to be this leery but there are so many dishonest sellers these days and I would not make any arrangements without going over some general check up aspects first. I have a checklist prepared for your kind of item so I can send it to you so you can take a look and tell me if it is OK.

Look forward to hearing from you soon!

These are mainly coming from south affrica, Most say they are currently out of uk woking on oil rigs or similar, And want to pay by paypal. What they do is send email to you saying they have sent money to paypal pluss about £395.00 extra to cover courrier cost and can you wire them through weston uion. Then they disapear.

In this sort of scam, the PayPal email is fake and claims that PayPal is holding the money until you've paid the courier. PayPal doesn't do this. The longest they delay money is 3 to 5 days for pulling it out of a bank account.
