Craigslist Scammers are Getting Smarter...Sort Of

Of course, after my last brush I am definitely more cautious, so when this came in I immediately looked for the red flags and lo and behold, "Western Union, your bank, and work from home" was there. But the script is different, and there are way less typos than previously. PLEASE take a good look at this new script so you can recognise it if you get one of these! Please note, the position advertised (Front Desk Admin for a Pre-School) is NOT the position described.

For those not familiar with the scam, it involves paying counterfeit cheques in to your account and paying the scammer cash. The result is that you are charged back for the full amount of the cheque, losing all cash you pay out and you could be in serious trouble for passing counterfeit paper.

Don't pay cheques in to your account from strangers and pay out cash. Companies also cannot receive money by Western Union/MoneyGram. Companies have bank accounts and don't have anything to do with companies that don't.

Never use Western Union when you are selling or even buying something as the likihood of being scammed is great with this company. Another indicator of a potential scam is the last name of the scammer;Powell, this is a name which is often attributed to scammers offering jobs and selling online. Another name that this scammer works under is Sarah Powell.
