Does this name ring a bell with anyone?

I've been approached by this person - says he's from the US, living in Birkenhead , Uk, self employed after working at University of Reading. He has a facebook profile and also one on LinkedIn (not read it yet).

Something about the way he writes is ringing bells. I have no email yet but if this seems like an existing scammer I'll try and get an email.

The name may not ring a bell, but the photos do. Perform a google image search and you will get some interesting results.

The profile description is also typical copy-paste

I now have this person's email address - hotmail!! I found the IP address and did a search and it came up as located in the US, whereas he claims to be in Birkenhead, Liverpool. He claims to be of US nationality.

This is a link to a LinkedIn profile, which he says is him.

So far he checks out but they usually do, but my antennae are twitching!!

He's using this email [email protected]

Should I just carry on and see what happens?

The person is quite likely real but is it him who's emailing?

When I paste the image url into google it says it can' find anything!!

No, please do not continue to correspond with him. As Dotti has indicated, the pictures have been used by scammers previously, and you are not corresponding with a real person.

Here is one topic with a scammer using the same pictures: http://scamwarners.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=62064

Is this scammer claiming to be in the gold industry? It appears he has a fraudulent website associated with his email address, which he created to support his persona. http://jpgarrick.com/contactus.html
He's stolen some content for his fraudulent "Garrick" website from the legitimate Barrick website: http://www.barrick.com

We will investigate and report his fraudulent site.

Please stop contact with this scammer and let us know if you have any questions.

If this new person has messaged you, post the messages he sent here and we can most likely tell you whether it is a scammer.

We do not recommend continuing contact with scammers who have any of your real information, even if it's just your real name. They are criminals, and it is not wise to play with criminals who know who you are. Baiting (corresponding for information) is something we only do when the scammer has none of our real information. You can see more about baiting on 419eater.com.

Once you know they are a scammer, post the info you have and drop them. There is no need to continue further. Don't explain why or tell them what led you to realize they were not real. Just walk away and let them wonder what they did wrong.

I checked out the link posted for photos and they're of the same man so obviously he's a scammer.

I posted his email address above - for what it's worth, also link to his facebook page and LinkedIn page. THat's all I have.

He only has a secondary email address of mine that I occasionally use.

He's not be in touch for quite a few hours now.

\Thanks anyway.

I was thinking from this statement that you have encountered another person you believe may be a scammer?

I may just have picked up another one so will see if he is now!

If this is a different person, we have a lot of experience with these scammers, so it is very possible we can tell you whether it is another scammer.

I have some email addresses that I use for baiting scammers. I do not use them for anything else but baiting scammers, and I access them in such a way that not even the mail server knows my real IP address. If you haven't been taking such precautions, then drop the scammer, and ignore anything and everything he says, even if he says he'll sic the UK FBI on you.

[b]"If this is a different person, we have a lot of experience with these scammers, so it is very possible we can tell you whether it is another scammer."

I have only been approached by someone for the first time but something about the profile again rang bells.

http://s10.wldcdn.net/m/DA9EC02D/AD59/C ... A/full.jpg - image URL (hopefully)

Profile text : "I could say that I am just a normal man with the same need for some company as anyone else. Have many interests but being outdoors on walks, playing golf and swimming are my favorites. The theatre, arts, museums are well catered for as well as DIY, collecting small antiques and enjoying music. The person writing this,

is kind and considerate always well mannered, he dresses for the occasion and usually on time. He is shy at certain times but generally outgoing and friendly to most, he is an honest and Faithful person. So by now you would be forgiven for thinking this mans to good to be true, well I never said I was perfect, I don't suffer fools gladly, and guess what I also can have bad hair days."

To me it has the pattern of a scammer
