Hi all,

Just to let you know the famous Declan Brouder ([email protected]) is alive and kicking and still trying to scam people. Just had him onto me in Ireland trying to get me to send something to a cousin in Nigeria.... watch this guy - he's got all kinds of paypal tricks up his sleeve. He also didn't have a clue what he was buying (asked about a camera when it was a lens) and texted me from a non-national number. I know its an obvious scam, but its good to know the identity he uses - if you get anything from the above, ignore it or tell him in no uncertain terms you know exactly what he's up to and you're not playing ball!

Sure Michelle text as follows (minus my details)

initial contact:

"U still have the camera for sale? What's your best price? Contact me on [email protected]"

To which I replied

"To clarify Declan, its a lens, not a camera - and I'm puzzled about your non-Irish mobile number. I
feel the price is fair, its a lot less then shops are selling the lens second hand for"

Reply:

"Am okay with the price of the item. I will like the shipping to be handle by the Post Office, so I will
add up the shipping cost, also I will be doing the payment Paypal Money transfer. Do send me your
paypal email ID with Name or send me paypal money request.
To proceed with the payment for item
I wish to send to cousin in Nigeria, I will supply address after you happy to take my payment.
So I will wait to hear from you"

I googled at this point, and it took me straight to this site with his details - apparently he's been at this a while. To re-iterate the email address is [email protected] - don't take my word for it, google it and see for yourself. Avoid like the plague.

I was contacted by the same person, from an Irish selling website

Received a text message from number 82646
"U still have the game console for sale What's your best price? contact me on [email protected]"

I emailed him saying it was still available, and knocked €5 off the sale price ...

His reply:
"Am okay with the price of the item.I will like the shipping to be handle by Post Office so i will add up the shipping cost, also I will be doing the payment Paypal money transfer. do send me your PayPal Email ID with Name or send me paypal money request.
To proceed with the payment for the item.
So i wait to read from you soon.

Thanks"

I asked him to clarify if he wanted the games I was selling as well, and that it would be Monday before i could confirm postage amount to him. He just replied OK.

I emailed him again today, confirming postage to Ireland, and asking again to confirm if he wanted the games or not. At this point, I was getting suspicious and searched his email address.

I have emailed yahoo to report the user, but judging by the amount of people posting about him online, that doesn't seem to do any good!

Welcome to Scamwarners irishgirl77.

You're correct because there are hundreds of these scammers spending all day responding on ad sites all over the world, and they're located all over the world too. They only need a few successful scams each week to live quite well and changing identity is not a problem for them. It's a bit like wanting to rid the world of cockroaches and they'll only go away once most people know how to recognise them and they can be taught to find honest work. To them it's business. If you go on an ad site without knowing what to avoid, you'll get scammed.

Getting a phone number (which confirms their location from the country code) and speaking to them will weed out a lot.

I love this, posted an ad on donedeal.ie, got a text message first from 82646, immediately suspicious because of number.
Guess who the buyer is, yep [email protected].
Asked me for my best price - "Am okay with the price of the item.I will like the shipping to be handle by Post Office so i will add up the shipping cost, also I will be doing the payment Paypal money transfer. do send me your PayPal Email ID with Name or send me paypal money request.
To proceed with the payment for the item.
So i wait to read from you soon.

Thanks"

Why is he looking for my Paypal details? I'm the seller and he wants my Paypal login details, I dont think so.
I asked him for his address so I could get the post office to calculate the shipping costs, and fair play to him, he sent me on his address in Nigeria
Name: Tunde O
Address: #38 Lafenwa Street
City: Abeokuta
State: Ogun
Country: Nigeria
Zip code: 23403

Great website by the way, well done! :=)

He doesn't want your login details, just your PayPal address (an email address). He's going to forge a PayPal email to that address, saying that PayPal is holding the money until you provide the tracking number. PayPal does no such thing.

Well, I'm selling an item over DoneDeal and got a quick text and then emails from this Declan Brouder. The alarm bells started ringing when he wanted to pay extra for shipping and handling via PayPal and then wanted me to send an item to Nigeria (exactly the same address as mentioned by once bitten). What did it for me was the phoney email from Paypal - it looked all wrong (it was verified by PayPal when I forwarded it).
