What you are describing is a very common scam, even with the fake FBI threats.

Could you post the email addresses the scammer used, and the threat email from the "FBI" (including their address, which of course is not the real FBI's address?) Posting email addresses and scripts will help others to avoid the same scam.

Dotti, i have similar experience, what should I do? how to get my money back.

Hi JamesJone, Unfortunately, there is no way to get your money back. You should report the crime to your local police, but they will not be able to do anything in terms of getting your money back or finding the criminals. It is just good to have the crime reported. You might be able to take a tax deduction on the money lost, but you will need to check with a tax adviser on that.

Please post up any emails, email addresses, telephone number and any other information that the scammers gave you. This might help prevent somebody else from becoming a victim.

JamesJone,

I'm sorry for your loss. As Claire said, there is no way you can get your money back. Scammers will have the money laundered before it ever gets to them, the person you actually sent the money to is likely another victim of the scammer being employed as a "money mule". You should also be aware that scammers may contact you again claiming they can get your money back. Do not believe them, it will just be another scam to get you to send more money.
