Yesterday I got an email from someone claiming to be Cindy Sayid.

Hi, am Cindy Sayid

i hope you are in atmosphere of peace and love.It was very great to me when i found your profile in my searching for a responsible and reliable person to have a good friendship with and I fond a great spark in my heart despite that I have not seen you in person, but there was a feeling that really gave me a nice pleasure to communicate with you and see how the sun will shines like,am willing to be your friend and here is my email address which you can contact me ([email protected])
Miss.Cindy

I've never been contacted in such way, but still I gave this Cindy Sayid a try and emailed her back.

Today I got an answer from her. This was a really long letter where she claimed that she is a 23 year old girl from Somalia now staying in Senegal as a refugee writing this letter from the office of reverend who is in charge of the camp. Telephone number +221-77-1713-079 and name of the reverend (Dona Brain) was also included. She claimed that her father was Late Dr. Sayid Garba who was a top politician and a successful oil business man who got killed because of the war. When her father was alive, he deposited some money in a bank (US$ 3.8m).
She claimed that she needs one foreigner to help her to get this money from the bank. Following is her plan.

I am helpless without you, i am having no account, any raw money at hand and no body abroad as a friend or relation to help me out for it is my wish to further life abroad. You will help me withdraw some part of the money and send to me to enable me obtain all my traveling documents to join you and have a good business with you and continue my education which is my most important concern now and for the capital investment which you have to help me for that. I will be ready to offer you 25% of the whole money a compensation and will equally map out another 5% to pay you back for any expenses you may make, if at all there will be.

After that letter I no longer contacted with this email address. I did some researching and found this scamwarners.com site where I found similar scam schemes. I wanted to share this story, this name Cindy Sayid and email address [email protected] as a warning. I also tried to find information about this name and email, all that came out was that exact same 'friend request' that was put on someone's social profile wall. So people may be in danger of losing their money.

In the end I wanted to thank you people who are putting effort maintaining this site to help people to stay away from scammers.

helii, thanks for posting. This is a very common scam. Because you've posted the scammer's letter and email address, searches will lead directly to this site and serve as a warning to other victims.

This scammer also uses the name Ruth Sayid. From what I can see, has been trying to scam people since November 2012.
Well done helii. Others will see your post and are far less likely to have their fingers burnt.

Thank you Cindy for not being a victim AND as well, alerting me to this cindy sayid. Instead of me writing to this person and being its next meal ticket, you have me validating your post warning of he/she being a scam.

I know how I received this email as it has come through me under my author's name <Mod edit: Personal details removed - CW>
The attached server this person used was through Agent Query Connect. I recently joined this forum but only used it once as an online chat. <Removed irrelevant text unrelated to scams that could be seen as advertising. - CW>

There are a lot of fragile and vulnerable people out in cyber space, thank goodness Cindy you and I are being at least proactive in alerting other to these insidious praying monsters of the bank balance kind.

I hope the information I have included will help any fraud officers out there in following through with the source of this scam.
