Another romance scam on Match.com

boy I feel like a fool...read some scam on this website and realize that the emails I was receiving from Desmond Chariovalda were a scam. Someone else here in April 2012 got scammed by someone call Johaad or something like that...I read the emails and they were word for word the emails I am receiving from this Desmond...very nice emails...I started getting suspicious when he started telling me about an accident on the oil rig, that someone died but not to say anything because they wanted to keep it quiet and not have the papers involved...then that he spent over $92,000.00 of his own money... then now he needs money and wants me to raise $5,000.00 for him and send it to Sharjah in United Arab Emirates

Also, his late wife's name was Nina...same as the other scam emailed I read here...she died of ovarian cancer, and he was so happy now, that he found me...laid it on pretty thick...and man did I ever get suckered in...lol...

He actually sent me his supposed contract with the Arab government to renovate an oil rig...that's where I started to think that maybe I was being taken in....the contract was dated 2011 and if he was supposed to have been there about 9 months and had 4 to 6 weeks left to finish...well the dates didn't match anymore as the contract stated that it had to start 5 months after the contract date, and the date on the contract was in 2011...which didn't jive at all at this point...

He also called and sounded just awesome. He is very very good at this, so please be aware. he doesn't know that I know he's a scammer, I have not confronted him with it and have no intention of doing so...I am just thankful that I didn't sent him the money, mind you I almost did... I researched his name, his company name and couldn't find anything at all, also went through obituary to see the announcement regarding the death of his late wife...nothing came up, name didn't exist...and this is went I came across this website and saw the exact same emails I was receiving with just a few extra twists to them but they were the same...

you know when they say it sounds too good to be true, well it usually is...so be extra careful with the long distance correspondence and then all of a sudden something comes up and the other person needs money...then it is a scam...think about it, no one in their right mind would ask a total stranger to send them money....right there it should be an indication...

Anyway, my name is Desmond Chariovalda, I was born in the city Eindhoven, Netherlands in April 30 1957, to a Dutch father and an English mother. I left the Netherlands in my teenage years with my mother to the UK after the death of my father in 1973. I was just sixteen at the time. I have lived, schooled and worked in England until 7 years back when my wife and I relocated to Toronto. I lost my wife in March 2009 and My mom 10 years back. I have a son who is in the Royal navy and we do not get to talk always but I am very proud of him. I do not have any brother or sister as I am the only child of my parent. I am a civil Engineer I do basically oil rig constructions and renovations or what we call a turn around mentainance. Right now I am renovating an oil RiG in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. I received almost identical emails from someone who called himself Mick Lannie (email address [email protected]) - an engineer who is widowed with a son. He came through matchaffinity.com. I had it sussed from the second email (ran it through a text search online and came back with several identical responses) but carried on with the charade for a week just to see where he was going. I could tell he was gearing up to ask for money ("do you believe in charity?" and "I had to borrow a huge amount of money for this contract with the UAE") so I stopped replying. I had quite a lot of fun composing ever-more florid replies, but it does make me mad that there will be vulnerable women out there who fall for this scam.

I also ran a search on the texts as it seemed 'too good to be true' and came up with many same emails. I have not been asked for money yet but stupid enough I sent pictures ..wish I could get them back....how long does it usually take to ask for money? LOL

Romance scammers are a very patient breed of scum and it can be ages before they ask for money. A lot of romance scammers are looking for a long term victim who will pay out big sums of money for years.
