Desired Skills
Admin Assistant, Computer Skills, Data Entry, Transcription, Typing
Job ID: 42236822
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you visit the listed site, you see the company name listed as Phoenix Infotech. It tries to get you to register to become eligible for work from home, data entry jobs. Registration costs money (they say to cover administrative and server charges) and it's quite outrageous with the upper tier of registration costing $65! Things that give this away as a scam are...

1 - Very poor grammar used in the Elance posting as well as on the website.
2 - Aesthetically, the website is very remedial. Looks like something I used to create on my Angelfire account, using my WebTV, over 15 years ago during the internet boom.
3 - The website is hosted by webyana.com, a free website hosting service.
4 - The cost of registration is ridiculous. Administrative charges? They are advertising themselves as an administrative support company....really? Server charges? They are using a free website hosting service!

When I did a search for Phoenix Infotech, I found this post. Beyond replying to this post I have done the following...

1 - Reported it to Elance.com. I have used Elance for a couple of months now and hold their business in high regards. I believe once they receive report of this activity, they will respond accordingly. I asked that the posting be removed and the user banned.
2 - Reported it webyana.com. I have no experience with this business, but would expect them to honor my request to have the website removed and user banned as well.

Admin note: Split from Infotech money laundering scam - these are typical work-from-home data entry scams, different type than original topic.

Anybody have any idea if this is the same scam as reported by ahs10 above?

Sounds the same.

http:// phoenixinfotech. webyana.com/dataentryregistration

I have report the same to Webbyana and Elance.com. I also find out that the account that used to post the opening in elance, is no longer active and profile is no longer available.

Need to contact Paypal to block the account so if anyone fall pray to the website, at least when they tried to make the payment, there is still another round of security protection.

I have contacted Webyana and they can only help to terminate the known address but cannot stop them from creating new ones. Due Diligence is a must on our part but when the money is too good to let go, or desperate, some may still fall pray.

I have checked their paypal payment page and founds that the look of it is different from the normal checkout page that I normally seen in Paypal. Maybe I am too sceptical. One thing I didn't found from the payment checkout page is, there is no verified account indicator.

Maybe another indicator?

It is confirmed that this is a scam.

I have run a company name check for the company name listed in the website.

Genuine Infotech pte Ltd, there is no similar match currently registered in Singapore.

Genuine Infotech Pty ltd, there is a registration for GENUINE INFOTECH PRIVATE LIMITED since June 2011 in Australia but note in the website, the contact address is in London.

Genuine Infotech in UK is available for registration.

Genuine Microsystems SPC. is not registered in Bahrain.

The writing looks West African. Does he claim to be anywhere in West Africa?
