Just wondering if there are any incidences of Airbnb scams? I have received an sms confirmation from Elena at a phone number +46769436002 but when I called, the line is not working.

This is a place in Venice, Italy. Any help to find out if this is legit?

thanks in advance,

AirBNB is a legitimate rental site, but I am sure that there will be scammers advertising on there, the same as they advertise on any other legitimate classifieds type site.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

They have a lot of the same rental scams that you see on Craigslist....basically if anyone asks for

Western Union
Money Gram
Bank Wire
Green Dot Card
Dwolla

or any other untraceable money transfer its ALWAYS a scam. ONLY deal with people you can actually meet OR whom you can pay through airbnbs own credit card processor (making sure of your scam liability on your card)

Italy's country code is +39, and the Venice area code is 41. I would suspect that the phone number appearing in the post is not in country ......

I highly doubt it has any legitimacy. If the # you gave is complete, it is a Swedish mobile phone #. Chances are the scammer had run out of minutes, and that is why you received the # not working message.

Information on phone number range +46 7694XXXXX
Number billable as mobile number
Country or destination Sweden
City or exchange location
Original network provider* Tele2 Sverige AB
