Hi all,
I am new to the forum and want to tell you about the iPhone scam I feel victim to.
They're posting on The Loot, Craigslist and god knows else where claiming to have stock of iPhones for sale. One story they're using is that they are shutting down a shop in Newcastle Upon Tyne in the metro centre and have stock for sale, ranging from iPhones to iPads. Claiming to have anything upto 60% off items.
Very stupidly I feel victim and paid right into their account thinking I would be covered by chargeback or an electronic trail of the transaction if the worst case scenario happened, and it did and I wasn't covered.
As soon as payment was in, that tracking number never came and thats when the taunting emails came in to play. I tried tracking the IP address and it gave me a rough guide of where the location was, but that doesn't provide a lot to go on due to lack of accuracy.
So I decided to do all that I could in an effort to track them down and get more information from [email protected].
I set up an alternate account posing as a male and sent an email to the scammers address asking if he had iPhones for sale, surely enough, he did. I placed an order for 5, claiming I had a field sales team who needed phones ASAP. Eventually he sent me his bank details, which had changed from the ones originally given and I told him I would send a bank transfer. I requested a name to address the payment to and a phone number, all of which he provided after I told him I was having problems with my bank and the transfer.
I placed a call to the number given and spoke to a male on the phone. This male was not Lee Hall but did confirm that he knew him. I told him that I had been scammed and that his 'colleague' was using a company name called mobiles2buy.webs.com to scam people. The male who I spoke to claimed to be shocked at this and asked me to forward all correspondence in relation to the fraudulent sale. He has text me and explained that he is looking in to the emails and I will receive a response with the hour (this is an active story)
I have reported all of this to action fraud, including names, bank details and telephone numbers. However, I'm not exactly convinced of their ability to follow up on this despite extensive information.
So in short, if you come across [email protected], [email protected] or Lee Hall, keep this thread in mind.
Thanks all.
