The Virginia Workforce Connection has identified the following e-mail addresses associated with requests for "Instant Messanger" interviews:

The VWC employer accounts associated with these e-mails have been shut down.

If you have a VWC job seeker account and receive an "invitation" to interview by Instant Messanger, please forward the e-mail to the Federal Trade Commission's spam task force at [email protected], and please bring a copy of the e-mail to your local VEC office.

It's appalling that they should infest a scheme trying to help people looking for work and, seek not only to scam them, but also potentially lead them into performing illegal acts.

It isn't any reassurance, but these scammers will take advantage of any scheme or system to try to steal money and any action taken to limit or thwart their activities is beneficial.

The employment letter would not even download to my computer. She told me not to worry about it just make sure that I was online at 9a.m. I was thinking that this was to good to be true so I looked up the name of the company which she told me it was ACTIVE CENTER. I could not find it so I told her that I needed more informatin about the company and the job otherwise I was gonna have to decline. She sent me a link to a website for ACTIVE CENTER and it was for medical equipment.She told me that I woud be selling medical equipment. I just deleted her from my messenger.
What was the purpose for the training exercise anyway if it was a legit job?

* Checks for $2,650.00 were entered into the cash book and deposited in
the bank but had not been cleared (deposited).

Yes, this is a common scam, you've done the right thing to remove this scammer from YIM. They could be sending more emails, maybe other types of scam emails, but you can ignore and delete them.

I was also dooped todat October 28, 2010. I live in Phoeix, AZ. I really applied my resume where they said they recieved it from. I am glade I didnt sent them my full name and correct address. But I am glad that I googled them and found this web site. And yes I recieved the exact same type of letters, job description and email. Same hours and shift too. This one was for a company called Active Center and the persons name was Barbara Charles.. Good luck

OMG, i've been doing this guys "Tasks" for 3 days now all the while trying to find something in google to tell me it's a scam, couldn't find anything 'til i found this. Thank you so much for posting it. I got a new name for ya.... "Paul Howard" his email "[email protected]". So far not too much personal information given and i've got everything saved. I think i'll toy with this @$$hole for a little while. Emails seem to be exactly the same except for the names, i'll save you guys the trouble of reading yet another identical post of his emails. I'm on his 3rd task now, writing an article on the best ways to prevent overdue accounts. Actually, now that i've read that, i'm not big on writing articles, i'll just email him a virus.

I am curious why the ASUS job offer has been deemed a scam. What makes you think this offer is a scam? I received a similar offer, but as of yet other than the fact it seems too good to be true, nothing has indicated a scam (I kknow if it's too good to be true, it probably is).

The check was for a VERY large amount way to big for someone who supposedly worked for 7 hours THIS is the SCAM.. the check itself

I don't even know where to start on this one, considering the fact that it is textbook scam.

There are plenty more, but a few key indicators are:

-The whole "instant messenger interview" thing -- this is not a practice of legitimate businesses.
-The clearly African English
-The reference to a legitimate website (which the scammers actually have no connection to) accompanied by the use of a yahoo address for someone who is supposed to be a representative!

My antenna went up when she told me she would be sending me a check for 3,600 that I should receive tomorrow. Deposit and then she'll tell me what equipment to purchase. So this starts seeming really strange. I couldn't find ANYTHING on the company, so I googled the equipment and found this site. So I asked her over and over was this a legit company and she assured me it was. Said she had worked for the company over 13 years. When I questioned more, she got defensive saying they didn't want anyone to work for them that had doubts in the company. i told her I would be returning her check and thanks for the opportunity. She said she would cancel the check and I haven't heard from her since.

Seems these companies just change their names and do the same thing over and over....
