I think you're the right person for this post, Please note that this position is not office based for now because of my frequent travels and tight schedules. It's a part-time, work from home basis and the flexibility means that there will be busier weeks than others. So it's a little difficult judging the exact number of hours you'll be doing per week. If you can manage your time properly, this job may even give you some extra while you do something else on the side. Unfortunately, I fell victim to these scams in my desperation for money to pay rent and bills, after losing my job. One initially asked me to be a personal assistant, and now is saying I'm a secret shopper for Western Union. As soon as I heard that name I knew I'd been duped!

What do I do, now? A few of these scammers, Dean Moore as the name for one, now have my name, address, and phone number? I know it's probably not enough for credit issues, and I'll be monitoring it closely to prevent any issues, but is there anything else I should do?

Don't worry about these scammers having your details. As you said, as long as they don't have your credit card or banking details, you are save. Just ignore the emails they write to you, and they will leave you alone.

I've received this email as of recently. All the information I gave was either fake or old. Surprisingly the person on the other end ACTUALLY reads the emails and not just responding to every and anybody.

Actually no. He may be sending individual replies but that's all. All he wants is victims capable of forwarding goods bought with stolen credit card details, so anyone who replies will be offered the "job". There's no reason for him to waste expensive Internet cafe time reading resumes.

Here is an email I got from a responder to a craigslist job post that i had initially replied to, it parralels those found on this thread [key phrase that i caught on to in relation to other posts on this thread was 'My only fear is that I may come at you impromptu sometimes':

What you would be doing is either laundering stolen money or printing forged documents to scam other people. It is good that you can see the flaws in these "job offers".

Greetings, I have fallen victim to this EXACT same thing. Unfortunately I have agreed to go further with this person because of my desperate need of money. Im not sure if the check sent to me is a fake check and I'm scared to even cash it. My thinking is to do this one assignment and tell him to leave me alone. There is no doubt the check is fake, or written on a phished account.

I won't pretend you couldn't get away with it. It is possible. as there is always a slim chance that if it is phished, the real account owner won't notice and report it. However, it is equally possible that it will be noticed.

When that happens you will face:
-Paying back every dime, plus additional charges from the bank
-having your bank account frozen and/or closed
-criminal charges for check fraud and/or money laundering. These charges could result in (a) fines (meaning that in the end this whole mess costs you a lot of money you don't have) and (b) very real jail time. You could be charged with a felony that will stay on your record for the rest of your life.

Ignorance is not an excuse. It's like traveling these days--if you carry something for a friend, and it turns out to be illegal, you can be charged, even if you had no idea it was illegal, because ultimately you are responsible for everything you carry, and for not accepting items that you have not personally inspected and packed.
The same is true of checks--if you are an adult and you are capable of cashing a check, then you are responsible for taking basic precautions to ensure that the checks you deposit are legitimate--accepting and cashing checks from perfect strangers is no different from letting someone add something to your luggage, and you will be held responsible.

Im REALLY glad that I have done my research before actually cashing some fraud check and putting myself into trouble, just for money. I love my daughter too much to even THINK about a day without her.
