Sleeping on it, the most likely scenario behind this is going to be the most simple and, based on the amounts, it's most likely to be payments for second hand cars from online sites. Getting their hands on that size of cash payment is the Holy Grail for fraudsters but initiating that level of cash payment via cards is unlikely, if not impossible, and I don't see phishing or hacking as likely.

The background work involved and scale of sites being produced make it inevitable that it is organised crime. Too many skills and people must be involved, from the 'foot soldiers' to those planning and organising it. Having said that, there is a strong Eastern European flavour to it all and, though there are a wide variety of skills demonstrated, it's far from sophisticated. It must be London based and I would imagine there's local assistance.

The downfall to this scheme is that it will inevitably attract and force SOCA to get involved, and that is the fatal flaw.

I can file a SOCA reoprt in due course as I am registered. I would need the details of names and accounts and the fake mail adresses and the websites etc . As much as possible . I can also be PM'D. or emailed to scampolicegroup
blah google mail blah com (to hide from bots). Pauly you only have a debt to pay, one you didn't want, it would be hard to prove guilty intent. You are cooperating fully with the Bank . You could ensure they make a SOCA report and they will have a person responsible for that..I doubt you will hear from police and it may not get reported to them directly. I remind you that you are a victim and your money has been stolen so you can go to police and report it as a crime and get a crime number and even if it feels like suicide I don't think it is. You can Be assured people in SW are on to the extent of this fraud. Some people around may make it difficult for it all to continue be we will say no more on that.

I do have information which may be of use and I am fairly confident of some of the tools they're using which could be helpful but it's a tangled and complex web, and it's difficult to see the 'wood for the trees' and I don't want to rush things. Under any circumstances what I'm compiling could save time, effort and investigative work.

I'll keep you updated as I progress Began.

It's not always facts that give them away but what they do and how they do it. For instance, it has always fascinated me how they manage to come up so readily with the names of generic dormant companies to use as 'fronts', and I believe I know how they do that now.

Hi People,

Thankfully I am off the hook. The Bank have contacted me and after throughly reviewing the documents that I sent them,25 pages !!! they are happy that I indeed was no part of this horrendous scam, and had just been duped by a very clever, calculating con. They had not in fact heard of MULTIMEDIA LTD,but told me that the scam involved people giving out their online banking details to this company, which they did ask me for,but i did not give, then having their entire account emptied !!! Absolutely shocking. The bank have reinstated my internet banking and asked me to contact them straight away if any other monies arrive in my account.I think i have had a lucky escape, and this whole episode has certainly opened my eyes as to how evil people can be........

Obviously I'm delighted for you pauly66

If you've got out of this without any harm you have been very fortunate, not that I don't think you should, it's just that once you've made payments, the outlook isn't good.

I wouldn't expect the bank to tell you what's happened and the local staff themselves may be unaware. That's standard procedure as you don't care if you haven't suffered harm.

I still think that my hypothesis is the most likely explanation but time will tell.

Take care and be cautious.

Hi pauly. I hope that means the bank have let you off with no financial penalty. Good that it wasn't so bad as expected. I hope you aren't being made to pay as you are a victim as well. They are probably glad to have your papers and their fraud people will be working hard on it.. The website will get killed fast and probably more will be hunted out too. However it is an endless task with websites growing like mushrooms overnight, lasting a few days and being removed after a fresh scam activity. Endless is an understatement!

I've noticed there are a lot of companies with these same registered details. For example Multimedia Ltd, Search Ltd and Ortegra Ltd all share the same address, which is:

Suite B
29 Harley Street
London
W1G 9QR

Is this likely to be because they are managed through an agent?

Yes. Many small limited companies will have their registered address set up as their accountant's offices, to avoid the owners personal address being plastered all over the Internet.

In this case, buy-this-company-name.com appears to register company names (or buy them) and then sell them on.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.
