My son just got this spam. Here are the specifics:

You don't have to put money out of your pocket, all you have to do is have packages shipped to your house and do my shopping. You are allowed to open the packages to reveal its content. The content of the packages are computer and electronics, clothings,business and personal letters. All expenses and taxes will be covered by me. You will work between 15 and 20 hrs a month. How much will you charge per month? I will pay $500.00. That is not a bad offer is it? I need your service because I am constantly out of town. I work in real estate and I own an Art Gallery in UK. I will return to USA in Mid December 2010 so this process will be going - on till i get back in December. If you don't mind, I will meet up with you when I return and then we can talk about the possibility of making this long term.

However, he might have saved your email address for further use, that is, he might try to send you more emails from different addresses with different types of scam.

Hi there

I have just had this exact scam happen to me through a website called gumtree. I am in Ireland so they posted on gumtree.ie. Be careful, they have done it in a very sneaky way and are targeting people looking for jobs and make it seem very legitimate. Luckily I found this information!

The original ad was posted on gumtree as a receptionist job with details from Nicola Windsor - [email protected] who then emailed me to say the job was filled but would refer me to a friend looking for a PA with details to contact: Annabelle Reeves - [email protected]

i to have receved this mail and send off details , as dump as i am, the scammer has sent us a cheque for 2500 euro , has anyone cashed this ?? or does it bounce

It will bounce.. eventually. At first the bank will make the money available to you. However, as soon as they find out it's a fake (this can take days or weeks) they will take the money back from your account again. They don't care whether you spent some of it or not, they will take the full amount and you will be held liable for it.

Destroy the check. Write "FAKE" on it in big letters. Shred it. Burn it. As long as you don't try to cash it

Obviously, if you are still communicating with the scammer stop doing so immediately!

What should i do if I already brought the cheques over to my bank? The told me that they will have to hold it in for 30 days to see if its safe and such but knowing now that it is a scam what would be the best thing to do? Will the scammer come after me now that i got this fake cheque? is it ok to stop replying to his messages? Please help me!

You need to contact your bank and let them know that you have discovered it is a scam, that you now realize the checque is fake.

You do not need to contact the scammers again; in fact you shouldn't. Don't answer their emails and don't take any calls from them They may continue to harass you (sometimes they even pretend to be the FBI!) but the fact is, they are criminals who were trying to steal money. They have not contacted and will not contact any authorities--they can't go to the police, the FBI, or anyone else to complain that you didn't help them to commit their crime--they would be arrested on the spot! Eventually they will realize you aren't falling for it, and they will give up.
