Welcome to Scamwarners.
Ole_Tech wrote:and with the aid of a scam baiter, got his yahoo mail account shut down. He came back with another a few days later.

We don't advocate closing scammers' accounts for just that reason. It takes longer to close one than it takes a scammer to open one. The longer they last, the more likely it is that an Internet search will show them for what they are.
419Eater is our sister site, and Scamwarners "staff" are there too.

The fact is Ole_Tech that a counterfeit cheque is worthless and that no bank can charge a customer's account with a forged instrument. It doesn't matter how good the forgery is or whether or not the cheque is real and was stolen, if the signature on it is a forgery then legally the bank has no legal right to charge it to their customer's account.

I suspect that those in this thread who believe that playing with counterfeit cheques is a good idea are scammers who dislike us spoiling their scam schemes, but if they think they know better than I do, I'm always prepared to discuss the legal implications of 'estoppel' to demonstrate who really knows best.

Sadly the world is awash with forged bank drafts, cashiers cheques and travellers cheques and I have quite a few from my baits. I even recall an instance where my bank refused payment of a bank draft issued by them which was completely regular, but it had been obtained by fraud and the bank knew the payee was part of the fraud and would have been happy to have the fraudster take them to court. That's why scammers need a third party 'victim' top take the loss, because they know that if they try to defraud the bank themselves, they'd lose.

As this particular scammer (scam group) appear to be very persistent I'd be very interested if anyone would post the header from an e-mail they've received from them.

I got an email too.from more than one company aswel which sounded even stranger!
The first one was from 'ELM', the second was from 'Pegas Ltd' and the 3rd was from union metals.com
I actually thought it was genuine at first and started to believe that I would be starting a new job.
For someone who lost their job then tries to be taken for a mug by getting ripped off by scammers is awful  i was apparantly supposed to be receiving a transfer and doing just as everyone else said, then i thought il quickly have a look on their website. and found this!

Im so glad there are people out there who actually try to help others xx
by GomerPyle Fri Jan 14, 2011 11:58 am
Can you send us a copy of the mail you got about the Union Metals Ltd job with headers, if you know how to do that. I suspect it refers to this website

http://www.unionmetals.com/

which is about as credible as a fake nose on a donkey. Scammers don't appear to understand that people in Norway speak Norwegian  - they don't use 'Ltd' to denote incorporated companies and such a vast organisation would have a website a little older than a month. I could also look it up in the Norwegian Registry of Companies, but somehow I don't think it's necessary.

Usefully that address is also a skyscraper and the occupying companies can be looked up here

http://www.emporis.com/application/?nav=building&lng=3&id=111288

There is no such company in the building.

The content of the website is also utter drivel. It's easy to miss these things as most people don't realise how much of the web has been taken over by scammers. We don't have the manpower, and nor does law enforcement, to take down all the scam sites, so we restrict ourselves to targeting those in active use.

This page has details of more of their fake jobs

http://www.unionmetals.com/?page=careers

I know it's a blow to you to get an offer and find it was nothing but a scam, but at least you didn't get taken for money and have reported it, so that we can take steps to have it taken down, based on your report to us.

You've got more chance of a job than the scammer has, based on viewing his website building skills. He wanted your cash - he didn't get any.

Maybe the scammer will learn to write Norwegian, and do something useful with his miserable pointless life otherwise his websites will all die young, but even then we will still be able to uncover it, if it's a fake.

We started a process with these people as they actually advertised a job on a jobsite and because my husband use to dealt with Union Metal in the USA before assumed it was the same company not immediately realising this is metals.
It is also bad for the actual Union Metal company which is a totally reputable company.

Just got this one and deleted it but i figured i would check out to see if others where falling for it and stumbled across this site. so i've copy and pasted the full e-mail NOTHING there has my name on it. i am not a member of some jobs network and own 2 e-mail address's, one i give out which has a false name so if i ever get anything in it i know it's garbage. the other one is my personal name@hotmail . com so if e-mails go in there i know they are important and from people and places i trust. which leads to the question, how did this e-mail find it's way into my trusted account?

It really annoys me, because i'm desperately looking for work, and these asshats treat me like a complete idiot. How stupid do they think people are?

And anyway, I only apply directly to a job advert, I haven't registered my details with any site. So how did they come across my address? I have applied for a load of jobs over the past few days though.

Keep up the good work. :=)

It's not a matter of being stupid, but being unaware of scams, and or desperate for a job. Scammers do it because some people do fall for it. Scamming is profitable,

I would. If you are sent a fake check, you can simply not bank it. But if you give a scammer enough information to transfer money from a phished bank account into yours, all you can do is alert the bank in advance.
