After the initial happiness from 'success', I got a feeling of forboding, and knew something was amiss. "Too good to be true", I thought. I reread it and then realized it was a scam. The bad grammar, the mysterious employer. A major red flag was being 'hired' without even an interview. No professional employer would do that, I don't think. Anyways,
I believe it is the same guy who messaged the others in this thread.

Keep an eye out, people.

Same as the guy that posted before me, I received the same email about an admin job a few days ago... I have been in contact with this person through a few conversations now, and just as someone mentioned in an earlier post, every time I get an email back it is a new conversation, they don't reply to the message I sent.

I followed through with what this person asked, received a check from them and once they asked for me to do my first 'task', I knew I should go with my gut. They wanted me to deposit this check (about $3,000) and subtract my pay, and then buy prepaid visa cards with the rest of it and send him the pin numbers.

A few things that set me off;
The UPS package I received was from the middle of no where in Mississippi (according to the address; probably not where it was originally sent from)
The check was from Ulster Savings (based in NY state; I live on the other side of the country)
Their English is bad, especially for any type of business person

I am getting in contact with the people I need to to report this, but it is just frustrating.. I am young, and looking for any work I can after getting laid off earlier this year. People who take advantage of people in need like this need to be punished... Not vanish into thin air and continue doing this for years on end like this guy apparently has been. Too bad he messed up this time and did two of these so close to each other; one google search of his phone number sent me here.

Be on the lookout... This type of crap needs to stop, not flourish.

Email after receiving the check:
Am glad to know you have received it. the received letter contains a check which includes your first week pay and and funds needed to complete your first trial assignment . You are to take the check to your bank and have it deposited into your account , Please allow 24hrs for funds to clear your bank . and you are to complete your task first thing in the Am tomorrow.

Once the funds is available tomorrow morning,Do deduct $500 as your first week pay and take the rest to the nearest Walmart Store, Kmart or any major store close to you. When you get there, tell them that you would like to purchase greendot moneypak with the funds with you. They will give you the moneypak cards then you will have to scrach the cards and email the moneypak cards pins to me.

This just makes me wonder how many people he has caught off like this; I hope I can make a difference in stopping this... But I am also a little worried about my safety after posting this, and how i wont be responding to him anymore. I dont want threats and I definitely don't want to put my family in jeopardy. Any advice? Please, and thank you. :/

The person you have been emailing with will be based in somewhere like Africa or the Far East and rely on anonymity. The last thing they would want to do would be identify themselves by getting visas and travel tickets to fly to your location (not to mention they are probably to lazy or poor to make the trip anyway).

The person who sent you the cheque will be a mule (another victim who thinks they have a legitimate job mailing out cheques to people).

Add to that the fact that even if the scammers did find this post, it would be very difficult for them to identify which of their victims reported them (unless your chosen username in some way identifies you - if it does PM Jillian or Dotti and ask for it to be changed to something more anonymous).

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Yup! I received this e-mail a couple days ago, but different alias. He sent me a check. I have not opened it yet, but now I know it is a SCAM. They even text me asking if I received it. I can't believe people sometimes.

Its best to just drop all correspondence with scammers and destroy the fake check they sent .

I am glad you recognized the scam attempt. If you would like you can do the following below with the check and envelope. You may also be able to contact your Banks Fraud Dept and see if they will take the envelop, check and emails.

File a fraud report with the postal inspection service. http://ehome.uspis.gov/fcsexternal/default.aspx You can also request an envelope from them and actually send them the check since you received it via US mail.

This scam is still going on - someone using my company and personal name in yahoo, outlook, etc email addresses is posing as me (and other businesses) to try to get information from people. It's become a part time job dealing with this. Fortunately people are googling my company and contacting me directly, being suspicious and alert.

Luckily I have an email address that I use for websites like craigslist that isn't really affiliated with anything about me including my name. For just in case this happens. I'm also sure he won't actually read this email either. I am a massage therapist and my last job was as a pastry chef so if he had read my resume he would understand the references, and makes me quite a find as a real personal assistant, I think.

But when I googled his name I was glad that this site was here so I knew for sure that it was a scam. Thanks to everybody who posted!

was the email addresses he used. I noticed right away that his first name was spelled wrong and it showed up in my inbox spelled that way but he signed it Michael, thought it was weird and with the weird grammar it threw up a red flag and is what caused me to google his name.
