In this scam teh scammers have impersonated the Hilton Hotel, the first and easiest way to see that its a scam is the fact that the scammers are using gmail email addresses rather than official Hilton Hotel email addresses.
It is possible for a scammer to make his email appear to be from somewhere official so just because it looks like a real email address it does not automatically mean that its legitimate but if you see a free email domain from a large organisation you will know for sure that it is a scam.
