Company Representative scams, Payment Processing scams and other Employment scams.

To whom it may concern -

Not sure exactly which type of scam this is, other than that it falls under Employment scams.

I received an invitation from one of their representatives (and I have NO problem providing every name I know if anyone wants them) to do consultations for Gerson Lehrman Group, as have many others and was left with the impression that opportunities would be presented to me provided that I submitted applications for open consulting projects.

I have already supposedly been 'promoted' to the 'Educator' Level, still applying for consults, and I believe there are Federal Statutes governing this, if a company presents you with an opportunity and offers you a position, it is partly their responsibility, provided you are doing your part in whatever agreement you have with them, to ensure that you are benefiting from your efforts and being compensated for your efforts.

If you fall for this scam and you do research for their company for alleged consulting opportunities, make sure you send them a very large bill for whatever research you did for them to do that, calculate the number of hours and multiply those hours by whatever hourly rate they set for you.

Also, if you fall for this scam, DO NOT BE SURPRISED IF YOUR ACCOUNT IS DELETED IMMEDIATELY AFTER INQUIRING ABOUT THE STATUS OF CONSULTATIONS FOR WHICH YOU HAVE SUBMITTED ACCEPTANCE APPLICATIONS

Hello Matthew and welcome to ScamWarners,

I'm sorry to hear that you have had some problems with your employment situation.

This type of communication/agreement breakdown or misunderstanding is very much outside our focus here: we concentrate on internet scammers who have fake identities and fake professions and fake companies; not genuine companies and genuine contract difficulties.

If you feel that you have been wronged by a genuine company, I can only suggest that you seek local advice from a legal representative who specialises in this type of situation.

Hi,

I've just had an email from this company this morning offering me part time consultancy work. In the past I've had a large number of obvious scam job offers (some of which have been featured on your site) however this looks a bit more genuine. They have obviously picked on one subject from my CV where I have experience although not my main expertise.
I'm not clear from the former post whether it is a scam or not. They say they got my details from Monster - which I am registered with. Would that mean they are a genuine recruiter if they can get my details from Monster? I would welcome advice on this

Hi Lizl,

Just because they referred to Monster doesn't mean they are real - I was able to pull up a few cv's without even registering, so it is possible that the ones who contacted you are not legitimate. If you could show us the mail, preferably with headers (if you don't know what a header is, just tell us which mail provider you are using and we'll guide you through the process) and then we might be able to tell you more :)

Gerson lehrman is completely legit in my view. I have done over a dozen consultations for them over the past couple of years, mostly for well-known investment banks and fund managers. I recently referred my brother to them and he has already done two assignments. GLG pays promptly and well (generally $250 an hour), and they provide good follow-up. They are very strict about disclosure and fair dealing, and as a consultant you must promise you will divulge no material, non-public information to a client (in general, you can't accept an assignment if you are an employee of a company that will be a topic of discussion), and you must also pledge not to reveal any details of your consultation to any third party, including GLG itself.

I assume they make a very good mark-up on their consultants, and that is fine. You can't support yourself with this kind of work - so far this year I have made around $1,000, but it is kind of fun.

I am an Educator Level (this is the highest level) member of the GLG Group Council of Advisors. I have been working on many assignments for GLG clients. Often GLG paid very late (up to 3 months after sending my bill) and in some cases they did not pay the amount had been agreed upon. So I won't say that GLG is a scam, the business model is good, but they are not trustworthy as payment is concerned. That's a shame.

If you are invited to join and you are happy not to be paid what had been agreed upon than please join GLG.

Also the quality of their staff is quite poor.

This topic is over a year old and well beyond our expertise.

If anyone is having difficulty with an employer in the USA there are proper channels to deal with employment issues. You can find the correct agency information in your local telephone book or search employment problems in your state on the internet

I am locking this topic so it doesn't continue any further. Feel free to PM me if you have a concern.
