Hello All,
I have seen numerous posts from people who are concerned about having their contact info listed on their resumes, particularly home address's. I too have been concerned about this recently and have reached out to several recruiters for their views on this. I would like to share their thoughts with you all. First off know that if the only info you provide is your address, phone # and/or email address you should be fine. If you still are a little leery you should know this. If you post your resume on the usual job sites such as Monster, CareerBuilders, Indeed, etc they have an option under your settings to hide your contact info. If you select this option the only info visible to job posters is your name. Should a perspective employer wish to contact you, they can send you a message thru the job site which will then be forwarded to the email address you provided to the site. If you are applying for a position posted on a site such as Craigslist, you can always include your e-mail address as a point of contact.
I of course was advised to never provide financial information, date of birth, credit or debit card info, or social security information. I was also advised about something I personally have never experienced but apparently is something scammers use. They may send you a Federal 1099 form to complete. For those of you not familiar with this, this is the form you would complete upon being hired by an employer. This form lists your dependents and is used to determine how much federal tax to with hold from your paycheck. Scammers will use this for 2 reasons. First they want to appear as legitimate as possible and this is one way of doing so. The other is to gain access to your social security number. Never, EVER complete one of these forms unless you are in and working at a physical office. These forms are readily available online for anyone to print out.
Well, I hope this helps you all.
