Company Representative scams, Payment Processing scams and other Employment scams.

I applied for a receptionist job for the Brick Lane Hotel in London on the Job Today app, I was then asked for a CV as the app doesn't give you the opportunity to attach it.

The red flag is that the "employer" told me to send my CV to a personal email address. I have Googled his name but nothing shows up. LinkedIn also shows nothing.

The hotel has a website - http://www.hotelbricklane.com/
and obviously has their own custom email. I was tempted to call them and ask if a Ciro Castrucci currently works there but I decided to post here first.

Are my assumptions correct into thinking this is a scam?

Please post the email address and any phone numbers that you were given and also the content of any emails that were sent to you.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

The job ad (filled with grammar mistakes):

We are looking to recruit a smiley, efficient and energetic Receptionist. Both male and female candidates, full and part time available.Wage £1000/week.

He replied with:

Please send your CV to email at [email protected] to confirm your job application for Receptionist position at Brick Lane Hotel London.Regards, Ciro Castrucci.

I think that the wage is too high to be true as well. I applied for analyst jobs for much less than that with legitimate companies.

It's a definite scam.

The salary is far too high for the position and no legitimate company would be using a Gmail email address.

Also, unless you are a UK/EU citizen, you would not be eligible for such a job any way as you would never get a visa.

Thank you. I had a bad feeling about this guy and turns out that my assumptions were correct. :)

That's something I wasn't aware of. My application in Home Office is still processing for UK citizenship and I didn't know just having indefinite leave can shut me out of some jobs.

If you are in the UK already then you will need to check the terms of your visa to see if it allows you to work or not.

These types of scams usually target people who are overseas and refer them to a fake travel agent to try to get them to pay for a non-existent visa.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to have come across this. Somehow knew that the personal email was a red flag.

hotelbricklane.com was registered in 2009, was last changed in 2010, and has till 2019 to live, so it's highly likely to be genuine. The scammer has nothing to do with the real hotel, so he has to use a different email domain.

The way he writes, the scammer is obviously West African.

This was the red flag for me. Thankfully you guys reconfirmed my suspicions so I didn't have to waste time with this scammer. :D
