Company Representative scams, Payment Processing scams and other Employment scams.

Hi, I got this letter a while ago (as I applied to a job through au pair site)
(If you know the whole email story then just please read the end of my letter)

Just wanted to touch base with you about the live-in household
manager job here in Arizona.

The typical day would consist of helping us in the kitchen
3 times a day for about an hour for each meal. You would
have a morning work session and and afternoon work session
in addition. For those two sessions you would do much
of your work from an office in our home. No experience
is needed. We think about 7 hours a day would be what
you would be working. And it would be at a relaxed pace.

On trips you would only have to work 2 to 4 hours a day
but would still be paid your full salary.

We are hoping to get someone to stay at least 6 months.
For us, the longer the better. If you could stay a year
or two that would be great also.

We will try to get some photos of ourselves on the web
site soon.

We are both attorneys and stay very busy. There will
be small parties in our home from time to time but
we hire a caterer for those occasions. We are both
in our 30's

The home is in the fashionable Biltmore area
of Phoenix, near everything. The person we hire will
have her own room with a private bathroom.

You would only watch Steven (our 4 year old) a few
times a week for an hour or two while the nanny has to
do something.

We are active supporters of the arts and go to concerts
and artistic events a few times a month.

We have someone who comes in 3 or 4 times a week to
do the cleaning and laundry.

There are other applicant at this point, obviously. We will
keep you as up to date as we can.

There are several community colleges in the area and Arizona
State University is 10 miles from us. Anyone working for us would
certainly be welcome to take classes. They can either be online
or at any of the local schools or colleges. To some degree
we could work around your school schedule.

As far as travel arrangements for someone to get here and other
financial details, all those can be discussed and negotiated.

If you have anything more to add about yourself, feel free to do
so.

Regards

Mrs. Richardson

Then the next one the day after:

It has surprised us how many very well qualified applicants are
seeking this job. As of now, there are over 130.

So I am telling everyone that the chances are low
to be accepted. Everyone we are considering
would be very good at this job.

However, I am referring 10 of the best applicants to another
similar job. That other job is better in some ways better than
the one we are offering and I hope you give it some consideration.

It would be working for a successful Phoenix businessman
whom we know by reputation.

I will keep in touch about our job also, but I do not want anyone
to keep her hopes up.

Thanks for your understanding

Mrs. Richardson

Then A. Morris contacted me saying that she is working for Roger....
My name is Angelique Morris and I work part time for a 52 year
old businessman here in Arizona. He needs someone to work
as his full time, live-in
personal assistant.

This will be a spectacular situation for the right person.

He is hoping to find someone who will stay long term. 4 months
would be the minimum. However, there will always be the need
for a live-in assistant so if the job worked out you could stay as
long as you liked.

You would keep him organized and do the shopping and
deal with the people who work in his home. He has a lady
who does the cleaning so that would not be one of your
duties.

He runs his businesses out of two offices in his home and
you would have your own desk and high speed computer
connection to the internet. He does not expect to hire
anyone who would know how to do everything that he needs
done and he is expecting to train whomever he hires. There
is nothing very complicated, just getting to know how he
likes things done. You should, however, know your way around
the internet.

All of your living expenses would be paid plus a salary each
week in cash or by check, whichever you prefer. The exact
amount of that salary is something that you would discuss
with him.
There would be frequent raises based on performance.

There may be questions of how you would get to phoenix, health
insurance, dental insurance, etc. Those you can ask him directly.

The work would be relaxed and low pressure.

You are not required to drive. If you do drive, he will make a car available
to you in order to run errands and to use on your own time. The car would
be purchased between 4 and 8 weeks after you begin working.

He travels frequently on business and just to relax. The destinations
are always interesting and he favors beach resorts.. It will be
much more productive for him on any of these trips to have
an assistant with him. All travel expenses would be paid of course.

As an example - he visits Hawaii twice a year and San Diego and Las
Vegas frequently, to mention a few.

His home is a luxury, two-story, four-bedroom house in a great
area of Phoenix in the foothills. We can send you photos if you
wish. You would have your own bedroom and bathroom.

There is a gym in the home but you would also be given a membership
to the best health club in Arizona, Lifetime Fitness. It is very helpful
for him to have someone go with him and keep track of what exercises
he needs to do and what he does, etc. Sort of like a work-out buddy.
You can look at the club online, I think you will be impressed. Go
to lifetimefitness..com and look for the club in Tempe, Arizona.

He likes to lead a healthy life style and is revamping his diet to avoid
red meat, sugar, dairy and a few other problem foods. You would help
him do the shopping, make vegetable juice with a juicer (he has several)
help him clean and cut up fruits and vegetables. If you can cook, fine.
If not, he will be happy with juice and salads..

There is something else about this job that I would like to share
with you. If you are an ambitious young lady and interested in
getting involved in business and doing very well for yourself financially,
you will find this very interesting:

After 3 months of getting organized and doing all the personal assistant
tasks routinely, he would be willing to work with you to see if you can
take responsibility working in one or more of his small business projects.
If you do well, there is no limit on how well you could do financially.

That would take 3 additional months, and if all goes well, bonuses would
start exactly 6 months after you first move in.

By the way, becoming involved in his business ventures is optional. He will be
perfectly happy with someone who wants to stick with the basic personal
assistant job.

He is hoping to find someone who can start soon, but is willing to wait
a month or two if necessary.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please reply to me at
this address.

Or feel free to contact him directly at [email protected].

Have a blessed day!

Angelique Morris

After a few back and forth emails Roger contacted me:

Here are a couple of things he might sent you too... (links and photos)

Then we skyped(I was just curious) it all went well but I was sure by then that this is a scam, and now that I'm reading this I just wanted to share the info with you....

But Im curious, he never asked for money or any kind of information (Im from europe) , plus he said he is willing to pay for my studies (which I'd have to apply from abroad and he'd have to pay in addvance, and open a bank account on my name with 'x' amount of money on it to proove that I'd have enough money to support myself.....) So this is what I didnt get.... any idea?

Thx

Scammers are the most generous people in the world MissCurious. :D

They always offer the cheapest deals and overpay when buying your goods - the problem is that you'll never ever get the money they promise. The smarter a scammer is, the later he'll leave it before his scheme becomes apparent. Usually he either needs you to send him money, or he'll send you a counterfeit cheque to cash for him and there's a case in the 'Romance Threads' of a lady who did that innocently and got arrested.

A person cannot open a bank account for you. It's contrary to worldwide anti-terrorist and money laundering legislation. You have to visit a bank in person to open a bank account.

My suspicion is that he'll ask you to cash a counterfeit cheque and send him money to put on your account that doesn't exist. If a story is too stupid to believe - don't believe it. Too many people don't question why someone is offering to do something that is unbelievably generous. Only scammers make offers like this.

Non-EU citizens should go here to find out about obtaining a visa to work as an au pair in the UK

Whenever payment is requested by Western Union you're dealing with a scammer
