J.Property Rights Specialist

Responsibilities
The Property Rights Specialist will report to the LRR Project Leader and support the broader work of the LRR project, but will be principally responsible for three sets of activities:
Policy Research. Help design, conduct, and manage policy research on the links between property rights and the management of land and natural resources. Initial efforts will focus on understanding the relationship between community rights and forest management. The Property Rights Specialist will develop the research questions/hypothesis, identify appropriate research methods, collect and analyze data, reach conclusions and develop policy recommendations, and prepare publishable-quality research reports.
Communications. Help design and implement communications and outreach strategies to share the policy research findings and recommendations with target audiences. The Property Rights Specialist will work with WRI’s External Relations team to develop appropriate outreach materials (e.g., policy briefs, web stories, op eds, slide decks, videos and info-graphics) and convene events (e.g., panel presentations and press releases). S/he will be a key messenger of the research findings but will also engage WRI’s Executive Team to share the results.
Global Platform. Help design, implement, and manage an online information platform for mapping and documenting community land and natural resource rights (e.g., forests, wildlife and water). The Property Rights Specialist will work with WRI’s GIS Lab and outside design firms to develop and manage the platform, negotiate data-sharing MOUs with governments and NGOs, develop protocols regarding the platform content, collect data and information on community land and natural resource rights (e.g., maps and shapefiles), and build a coalition of supporting organizations to ensure broad buy-in.
