PLEASE HELP ME FAST. IS THIS A SCAM?

I applied for Au Pair and I spoke with a London family.

Here is what they told me

I spoke with my wife and we have decided to hire you. You can prepare your luggage's to come in UK. We will be very happy to have you in our family.
Before you arrive in UK you have to know that you have to pay some taxes to get a full work permit, travel Visa.

Here are the taxes you have to pay:
1. Green card work permit - £425
2. Sponsorship License (Tier 2 and Ter 4) - £400
3. VISA (Tier 1, General Migrant ) - £750
4. Certificate of Eligibility ( it will offer free medical treatment in case you get sick witch is require to get your VISA and Green card Work permit , a life insurance during the period you stay in UK and a National Insurance Number) - £375


To obtain full UK citizen membership within few weeks you must have a UK bank account opened in your name. I can open a bank account in your name through my Bank ( Barclays Bank Plc). You will go at your local bank in your country and you will transfer the required amount you need to get this documents to the bank account i will open in your name here in UK so you can use your bank account to pay when you will apply for your VISA , Green card , Sponsorship license and Certificate of Eligibility.

When you have the fund transferred to your UK bank account, you can go on work permit website (www.workpermit.com) and you can apply by your self to get the VISA and Green Card work permit. You will chose to pay with your UK bank account. By paying through UK bank and with my reference as employer , they will have the documents ready for you within 1 week.


I wait your email with a copy of you Passport and a copy of your driver license or a second document so i may be able to open for you a bank account. As soon the account will be opened i will email you your bank details so you can proceed with the transfer of the requested amount so you can pay your taxes for VISA, Green card and all the application fee when you will apply for them. I will also go at the UK Embassy so i can arrange the formalities in your name so you can obtain your necessary documents when you will apply for them.

P.S. I forgot one thing to mention. As a gift from your new family and because you have so many taxes to pay because of our UK rules, me and my wife decided to buy the flight ticket for you. Just let us know when you are willing to come , the nearest airport in your area and the flight hour when you wish to fly so we can book the ticket for you.

I don't have time for a detailed response right now, but I'm sorry to have to tell you that it is definitely a scam.

There is no job, no visa, no flight. There is only a scammer (who is not in UK), who is trying to steal your money.

I thing you wrong because he give me his company profile and phone number. He also give me his bank phone number to confirm and apply for my bank account. I google the number and was from barclays bank plc in London, Uk. He also send me a movie with his family and show me the house. I had a little dubt but now I can tell that it's OK. He doesn't ask me any money . I forgot to mention that i come from Croatia.

The writing tells me he is not from UK. English clearly is not his first language. But he made it clear he was a scammer the moment he wrote this:

Au pair visas are not Tier 1 visas. There is a separate visa type for au pair.
If he were really in UK, and was really hiring an au pair, he would know that.

The bank account may be real. He or someone else may set it up, you will transfer the money, and he will take the money and keep it.

Karsten, this is a scam, all of the taxes he mentions do not exist in real life. You will not get a work permit as an au-pair in England, it is not an occupation in dire need of people coming from other countries.

He has sent you some possibly real information, to make it look good, and to steal your money.

If you do as he suggests, and transfer money to an account he opens for you, he will then withdraw it as soon as it arrives, and you be left with no money, no job.

The plane ticket he talks about, he will send you the details, with an airline booking page. If you doubt what I am saying, do not transfer the money until you verify with the airline that the ticket has actually been paid for, and is not transferable. It will not be a valid ticket, you will not get a work permit, you will not have employment.

This is a scam.

the thing is that he bought me a airline ticket. I check with airline company and the ticket is valid and fully paid. I realy trust him and i think he is not trying to scam me.

As Dotti says - it's a scam and this scammer is a complete idiot who knows nothing about the UK and it's difficult to list everything he has got wrong.

1. You cannot apply for a Tier 1 Visa (unless you are already in the UK).

On 23 December 2010 the UK Border Agency stopped accepting Tier 1 (General) applications made overseas. Visa applications that were made and paid for before 23 December will be processed as normal.

2. Tier 4 Visas apply only to students and you are coming to the UK to work. The rules are complex and can be read here.

The scammer wants you to pay him money and he doesn't care that you won't be able to get a visa because there is no job and he is too lazy and not clever enough to have any idea of what the rules are.

'Green card' is a term relating to US immigration and is nothing to do with the UK.

It is not possible for you to open a bank account for someone else in the UK, and I spent my whole working life in a UK bank, so I know what I'm talking about. To open a bank account you must visit the bank personally yourself. It is a fundamental part of Anti-Terrorist and Anti-Money Laundering legislation.

He has no job, he will steal your money and he isn't even a very good scammer. Paying him money won't get you a job in the UK or a visa.

In response to your last comment, I can assure you that he hasn't bought you a plane ticket.

Why would he ? You won't be able to gat in to the country.

Tier 1 is closed, and you aren't a student and therefore don't qualify under Tier 4. Having a plane ticket doesn't improve the situation. If you tried to tell Immigration that you are a student, they don't just take your word for it. You need to pay for a course of study at an approved college and hold specific documentation to prove it, along with a heap of other paperwork.

The scammer will be helpful up to the point he gets your money, but he is a fool and can't get you in to the UK, more especially because he is most likely sitting in an internet cafe in West Africa.

I only pointed out a couple of things, and others have pointed out some others, but basically everything this person has written is wrong or shows that this is a scammer.

We can't stop you from transfering your money, but unfortunately if you do, you will soon find yourself with no money and no job.

You came here for our advice, so please take it. There is no possibility that this is a genuine job offer. Croatia isn't in the EU, so you cannot get a job in the UK as an au-pair.
I expect his phone number starts with 4470 or 070. These are free numbers that transfer calls to another phone anywhere in the world. So scammers use them constantly.

Last point

Tier 2 visa applications relate to highly skilled workers - and au pairs don't fall in to that category.

The applicable Visa Category is Tier 5 about which the scammer is ignorant.

As Arnold has stated - as a Croatian national you are unable to come to the UK to work as an au pair. I do not know the reason for this, but that's not the point.

That is the government website relating to immigration control and it is the law. The scammer is ignorant and hopes you will not check up on the facts. He does not know the rules. He just wants your money.

Karsten, when you say you checked with the airline, did you find their number, or did you ring the one he gave you, or the website he provided?

If you rang the number he gave, you reached an accomplice who has been instructed to give you that lie.

This is a scam, you are not permitted to work in England, as Gomer has pointed out, there will be no work permit, no job, no visa, just a large amount of your money going to a scammer.

i went on british airlines web page and i click on check flight. I put my name and the boking number and was ok

I forgot to mention. He told me that he will help me get a student visa because is more better. as his wife is the cheaf secretary at Abbey College , he will help me get a college documentation on my name to get the visa for students.

I called at Abbey College to ask for his wife and she exist , i also spoke with her at phone directly on Abbey college phone number ( number tooked from google )

Hello Karsten, if this person does use the Student Visa process to bring you to England, he will be breaking the law. You will be a participant in breaking the law and could be deported.

The person you are dealing with could have easily looked up the name of the person at Abby College too. Did you speak to this person and ask if they are looking for an au-pair in a way that is breaking the laws of the country?

What did you talk to the person at Abby College about? If you would please sent the phone number you called to me or one of the other staff by PM. We don't want the number on the open forum, but we can check things out for you.

You sound desperate and that is exactly what scammers look for. They also try to get things done in a hurry and tell you not to talk to anyone about the arrangement.

We are trying to keep you from getting scammed and losing your money.
