Company Representative scams, Payment Processing scams and other Employment scams.

Found this was a possible SCAM after requesting more information from the "Interviewer", they had quite the attitude when answering my questions, but wanted prompt answers to their questions. I thought it would be a scam when I read the e-mail and the contact person was to contact me at anytime between 8AM and 6PM, so long as I sign up for a Yahoo Messenger account and wait for them online. The second clue was the mispellings, and add to this the 'mixed gender referencing' between who would contact me. Be careful of conversations that include software purchases, where the purchaser is iffy... I.E.
This is a administrative position/Data Entry and Accounting , Working hours are from 8am-3pm, Monday-Friday. The starting pay is $19.50/hr for this data entry/administrative position, you are also expected to come online through Yahoo Messenger during working hours

I want you to setup a yahoo messenger and if you got one already use it, add Mr Steven Marshal the Hiring Manager and IM her on this ID ([email protected]) asap for the interview/briefing and comprehensive job details.
::::::::::::::::My contact stated:::::::
Names of software are ::
BS 1 Accounting software,
Quickbooks pro 2009 or later,
Myob bussiness essentials software 2010,
Peach Tree Software( US Patent Single Users Pack ),
Simply Accounting 2010,
Microsoft Office Accounting,
Sirius GT Accounting For Windows, all of which is to be purchased before start date.
(I was then told) The company will be responsible for funding any purchase so you have nothing to worry about. I am just pre-informing you.

As for your duties, they will be as follows: Your Primary duties include: Preparation of Balance sheets (Mini), account balancing, invoicing recording, proper data analysis of sales records and recording pay slips into accounting database all these will be done through the use of the Accounting Software.

Your secondary daily duties would be to report to your Supervisor, who would be attached to you online, He/She would assign logs of duty daily and you would be required to work according to instructions, using the Microsoft Office tools and the Accounting software. Now the function of the Accounting software is to arrange, formalize and manage the data you have processed, sent to your supervisor via E-mail.
I will be online to assist you with any difficulties . Do you understand ?

Where the company had a well known name, the person "Interviewing" had no questions about my experience level except to ask if I knew about Excel. This was when I realized that I was not going to be paid for this time. Reader beware, this job was posted on Craigslist as a ""Personal Assistant"", then I was "interviewed" for a data entry position.

This resulted from posting a redacted resume and cover letter on Craigslist to protect myself from spammers. I guess these folks are trying to scam users. It's shameful since we're all struggling to find jobs and you have these nutjobs doing their very best to steal from the poor.

If anyone gets this email, delete it or forward it to this site. Let others beware of scam.

I also found this job ad on craigslist, and upon applying received the exact same response from a Janice Porter:

I spent an hour with this "naomi" today "interviewing". Throughout the whole process I felt something wasn't right about it. Thankfully, I came across your post on google and my feelings were confirmed. I had made it as far as them telling me what my job description would be and when I told them I was no longer interested, they became rude to me saying, "Why is that? I only took so long to answer you because yahoo kicked me off messenger when I was checking my emails okay". Wow. Snippy little scammer.

That's the last time I give online jobs a chance in my booked. Sad that you give a little trust hoping they are true and then you get duped anyway.

My girlfriend followed through with this ad and actually recieved a check for almost $2000. While "Peter" keeps insisting on her to keep contact and the company being "sharp Technologies" the check came from "california college of the arts". I'm still suspicious, but i'll let you all know how it turns out.

socal:

The check is fake or is written on a stolen/phished account. If you or your girlfriend cashes it, you can wind up in a very big financial mess, and even in jail! You can be charged with anything from check fraud to money laundering. Even having the check in your possession, unless it is clearly and indelibly marked fake, can get you into trouble.

This is not a scam to be played with, or just to "see what happens."
