ASTRO Consulting

Due to various things leads me to think that this is a scam but the way it is laid out makes me not sure, however since it is from a hotmail source i think it is a scam

It is all in pretty colours hence my doubt so could this be the next step for scammers to make thing look professional?

EDIT: Think its a scam registered and made on the 29th May in the Russian Fedaration

I've received this one as well but from a different hotmail address.

At the bottom of the email it says "ASTRO Consulting has obtained your contact details from public internet sources" which is somewhat worrying as the email was addressed to my name specifically using an email address I did not authorise for public use.

I must assume then that "Astro Consulting" have obtained my name and email illigitmately or the company I used that email address with has sold on my details without my permission.

I have now blocked that email address and all emails will simply be deleted but what other details have been aquired by "Astro" I wonder?

That may or may not be true, as you can never believe any part of a scam email. Have you tried googling on that email address?

Tried a Whois query, but to no avail! No registrant revealed. Hmmmm... But the site has been registered since May 29th. Year: 2011. Hmmmm. Copyrigth says 2006-2011. Yeah right. Either not true, or a quick change of domain. Why would that be?

On the site they name themselves as "Ameriprise". Why would that be? Google Ameriprise + scam and this was one of the links on page:

That's not unusual. Fake sites are often registered for only the minimum 12 months as they tend to get shut down quickly. Fake copyright dates are used to make the site look older than it is.
I expect that "Ameriprise" belonged to an earlier fake site belonging to the same scammer who forgot to change the name when setting up the new site with the old pages.

I also checked the whois and it looks like Astro Consulting is registered in Russia by the following person:

There are reports here that Pixmania is the source of the email addresses that this scam was sent to.

I, too, have received the ASTRO Consulting e-mail which was lurking in my spam box. Subject heading contained my full name (I thought it was actually a reply to a job application, which is why I opened it!). Layout looks sort of - or just - plausible but some weird use of English which gave pause for thought. Emanated from a hotmail address which rang more alarm bells, particularly as it seemed littered with mistakes ref the name in "from" and the e-address. Deleted at speed.

I googled ASTRO Consulting out of interest. What I found indicated a head office in the States with a regional office somewhere like Venice (Italy, rather than US of A!). Website looks above board, so it this a double-whammy scam...using name of a proper company to ensnare the unwitting?

Rather scary that ones name is lurking in cypberspace ripe for picking, viz e-mails apparently from banks wishing to update ones security details: curiously, always from a bank with which I've never had an a/c - I don't ever open those messages. I hope these sort of things have received enough publicity to avoid anyone ever being foolish enough to respond!

My first post. Was really pleased to find ScamWarners.

On 10th June I received 2 emails from Astro Consulting, the first with the heading "Bored?" and the second with the heading "Got some free time?". Both sent to the same email address but with my surname and initials reversed. The content was very similar and the layout made them appear quite convincing.

About a month earlier I received a much more amateur version of the same thing but it just said "Internationally based corporation seeks workers....etc." So beware they are getting more sophisticated.

It's interesting that you mentioned Pixmania. I am a Pixmania customer and I received a warning from them some time ago regarding hacking of their database.
