Welcome to Scamwarners.
I don't see the connection between employment as a mail clerk, and buying artworks, but it's 100% scam. Banking a (fake) check and sending money by Western Union leaves no possible doubt. Can you post the scammer's email address please.

Hi leadtech31,
possession of a counterfeit cheque is a criminal offence in most countries. As soon as you receive the cheque, you need to do one of the following:

- destroy it thoroughly
- bring it to the police
- take a permanent marker and write "FAKE" onto it with huge letters.

The scammer will pester you to cash the cheque and send him the money. Don't reply, stop communication.
He might eventually threaten you with emails from fake police officers or debt collectors. But when the criminal realises he won't get any money from you, he will go away.

I have already been in contact with the bank that it was supposedly drawn on in Washington state. They are now in possession of the original check once FedEx delivers it to them. I'm just glad I was smart enough to catch this before it cost me money.
