I have been offered an au pair job in switzerland, is this a scam? The first e-mail below was telling me about the position and It was sent in early Feb.

Hi Mary

Thank you for the short resume about your person.
Who is the Mungo family? We are couple both working and enjoying our jobs with a good portion of passion. I’m working as an IT Project Manager and Business Consultant, taking problems of my customers they have in their systems and find better solutions for them. My wife is working in financial business in private bank and she want to make happy people with services around storing and investing money. Our daughter is 6 years old, goes to kindergarden and enjoys her life as a child.
In our free time on weekends we love to be active like skiing in wintertime or biking in summertime. Walking or visiting swimming areas, visit places in our nature or even pass long weekends in our wonderful mountains give us a lot of energy we need for our life.
Our daughter stay with a nanny during the day on week days and we pick her up in the evening when are back from work. In summertime our nanny wants to have a break and spend her holidays with her family. Therefore we are searching a “summer nanny” for our daughter.

What we expect from you? During week you will have a working time up to 40 hours. Weekend most time will be free for you. In your job mainly we expect to be a nanny for our daughter, play with and entertain her as much as she need. In morning time she is in the kindergarden (in July and August she will have holidays for 5 weeks) and you should cook for her a lunch. We will prepare a schedule for you where we can fix what you have to do during your job time. You will have weekly goals that must be done. So you will be free to decide when you like to do your jobs expect to be nanny. In the most important jobs you will have an introduction.

What will you get from us if you are our aupair or nanny? We follow the rules of payment that the Swiss Organization of Aupair recommends and depending from your knowledge you will get your salary. This will be an amount between 1300 up to 1800 € (1700 up to 2350 $) per month including all services. In this amount included you will have a small single room flat in studio-style with a separate room containing shower and toilette. We offer a TV and a DVD player to use by your own and a mobile cell phone to use if you need any contact with us. In our country it is mandatory to have a health insurance and an accident insurance. From the salary we declare you have to pay some taxes. All food and daily needs for you will be included. As far as you are with the family you will not have any expenses. For your personal need when you spend time out of the home you will have a weekly money amount that we will fix together in the time we fix the contract. If you expect anything else you can tell it to me.

What will be the next step? We will decide in the first days of March who will work with us. We have received more than 60 requests for aupair until today. I have reduced to a few candidates and you are one of it. Let us the time to decide and you will be informed about our decision. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact me or if you decide for another family give us a short message.

I hope this gives you a good impression about the aupair job. For the moment I wish you a good time and you will get news from us in the time I announced.

Greetings from Switzerland

Mauro

Then I got another one on March 5th telling me I got the job. Is this real or should I be skeptical? Are there any questions I should be asking or things to avoid so I don't get scammed?

Welcome here.

When they give you the job without asking questions, then yes, you should be very skeptical. Also the amount of money they offer is too high. And as an au pair you only get pocket money, not a salary. As the "family" is talking about a flat where you will live, then it sounds like a scam with the non existant flat/room for which you are required to pay one month rent in advance. Could you also post that other email from them?

Whoever wrote that is not a native speaker of any Swiss language. Could you post the headers, so that we can see where he really is?
