Company Representative scams, Payment Processing scams and other Employment scams.
by Donman Sat May 26, 2012 5:30 pm
I came accross an advert for jobs with a UN agency - UNIDC -United Nations International Development Commission. They wanted my cv and cover letter which I sent.
Later they sent me an interview form plus a P11 form, which I filled and sent back. After a few weeks, they have sent me a job offer.
However, I have searched for this UNIDC on google,... but I can't find it.
Can any one help with this issue? I have read the contract for employment but it looks fishy!

This unidc.org is very suspicious. I can't get onto their website, can you? Also, the website is about one month old and was only registered for one year. That's a pretty classic sign of a scam.

Hello Halper
Thanks for the responses. I also tried going to their website and failed. I have also contacted the UN but haven't got any response from them either.
Let me give them more time to respond.

Translation: We don't want you to go to an embassy, because if you discuss our "process" with someone at the embassy, they will tell you that it is not real.

Dear Donman,
I have received the same e-mail from the so-called "UNIDC". I had doubts from the very beginning but finally I understood that this is a scam when they started asking for money for renting an apartment in Geneva.

Dear Dotti,
I have provided all my personal information to them. What do you think? Can they use it? If yes what should I do? Will a change of passport be enough?

Thanks a lot!

If you have not given them confidential information (bank accounts, credit cards, numbers that are intended to be confidential) they can't do very much with the information.

Sometimes they do use victims' names in future scams. While this is not good, and it can cause you some headache, it is generally pretty easy to prove that you are not involved in those scams.

It is also likely that you will see more scams that are directed at you, so be very careful when reviewing opportunities in the future.
