I replied to a post on Craigslist for a customer service position and got an email from a David Mark offering me a job for donating to kids and he would send me a money order. Definitely seemed sketchy and I didn't reply, knew it could've been a scam. Also, his email had nothing to do with the name David Mark.. It was [email protected] ... Strange. Here's the email he sent me:

"Receptionist ... working from your home" does not make sense. "youth education activities in architectural development" doesn't make much sense either. The writing style is not that of anyone educated in any major English-speaking country. There's another home-based receptionist job mentioned in another thread; it's a scam. Most likely he's looking for someone to launder funds sent by victims of other scams.

100% a scam. The money orders are fake. The scammer would have you cash them and from the sounds of it ask you to buy items most likely electronics as "donations for the kids" shipping them to Nigeria or Ghana. When the checks are eventualy found to be fake from the bank you would have to pay the bank back and the scammer makes off with the items.

Thanks for posting the info it will help someone else avoid the scammer.

I got another email today and not sure if this one is a scam too. The sender's name is Mark Ryder and email address is: [email protected]. Please let me know what you think. Normally when employers respond about a job they have their contact information under their name at the end and also have the company name/address/phone number. Here's the email:

Hello,
My name is Mark Ryder , head of the human resource department for Creative,LLC and just wanted to update you on the job position. I have looked over your resume and decided to have you shortlisted for the office admin position. I would like to schedule you for an interview sometime next Monday or Tuesday if possible as well as get you to complete the pre-interview requirements that all shortlisted applicants must complete before I can pencil in an interview date.

The available position will require you to work in a high financial environment so it's our corporate policy that we do a financial verification check on all employees to verify applicant registration informartion. Its corporate policy that we have applicants sent through following link so we are compliant with the U.S employment standards act. http://staffing.creativeabov.org/Report/apply.id12331 . It will re-direct you to the report site. PLEASE Don't email us your report. Instead print it out and bring a copy to the interview as we will need to have it on file. Since this is just a pre-screen formality your actual score will not affect your chances of being selected.

On top of that please be sure to:

-Whether a morning interview 8am-11am would be a problem
-Active references that would be good for us to contact
-The account reference number you received after you completed the credit report form
-Working number to call you and confirm your interview date

Please complete all the outlined steps and check that the information is accurate when you respond

Additionally, I will give you a tour of our offices, discuss pay structure and go over job duties. If you are no longer looking for employment please respond with your name and 'not interested' in the subject field so I can better shuffle through all the mail I get and take you off the applicant list. Once again, thank you for your interest in the position. I look forward to hearing back from you.

With anticipation,
Mark Ryder

Please let me know what you think. This one seems to have a little more English writing experience than the other posting I made. But still not 100% sure. Thanks!

Total scam.

Legitimate employers that perform credit checks request credit reports directly from credit reporting companies. They do not have potential employees get the report themselves, ever.

This type of scammer is sometimes only after an affiliate fee from the credit report provider (often in this case it is creditreport.com), but they are collecting enough information for identity theft, too.

They also have a bogus domain established to support the scam.

I thought this was a scam!! I too applied for a job listed on Craigslist and the return email requested I complete a form using creativeabov.org/freescore to obtain my credit score. I sent a reply to the person indicating I would not provide private information prior to an interview. This was not the first time I applied for a job using Craigslist and received a response such as this. The person responding was "Mario Nelson" from Creative Derict Media, LLC. When trying to scam someone, the person should at the very least be able to spell.
