Hello hgabe and welcome to scamwarners.

Yes it is a scam.

The scammer wants his victims to be mules. He wants to send victims stolen property bought with stolen credit card information. Once the victim receives the merchandise he will have the items repackaged and sent to him or other scammers.

Later the credit card company and merchant will learn of the scam and report the re-shipper to Law Enforcement.

If the scammer does pay you. It will be a fake check, money order or from a stolen bank account.

how do i get out of this and I still have one of the packages

My advice would for you to contact your local Police. Give them the remaining packages, Mailing labels and anything else the scammer sent you.

You will also want to keep the emails and print them off. Show the Police the emails.

You also will want to notify your local Postal Inspector.

By chance they have your banking details. You will want to notify your bank.

Stop communicating with them. They may send you false threats and attempt to scam you in the future with a different name, email address and scam script.

To add to what Byron said:

Sometimes the police will not want to take ownership of the packages. If that happens, you don't want to keep stolen property, and you don't want to forward it to the thieves, as either makes you part of the crime and can get you arrested.

If you have opened the package or cannot mark it "return to sender" for other reasons, it is best to be proactive. Most of the time, as Byron said, the scammers use stolen credit card or bank information to order items from legitimate businesses. The business may not even know that the payment is fraudulent yet, as the card or account owner may not have identified the unapproved purchases yet. You can also contact the business (do this AFTER contacting the police and filing a report.) Explain what happened, that you now realize that these may have been fraudulent purchases, and see if they want to further investigate and/or arrange a return. If they refuse return, keep a record of who you contacted and what was said, so that later, when they do realize there is a problem, you can show you made every effort to address the situation.

As Byron said, do not expect a paycheck. If you get one at all, it will be fraudulent, and cashing and spending it will land you in an even bigger heap of trouble.

Did this "company" have a website?
