I got an email yesterday offering me a job reshipping envelopes. The email said no packages would be envolved just envelopes. Is this a scam? What types of mail could be envolved since I would not be receiving any packages which would indicate a reshipping scam?

What a pity you didn't post up the email header and the message. Who sent the e-mail? Why was it sent to you? Have you applied for some kind of online employment?
From the few details it does sound sus.
Has the promoter said, if you pay a "small" fee, they will tell you how to earn big money by sending envelopes from home. Are you supposedly being paid a certain amount of money for each envelope sent, resulting in hundreds of dollars for you each week? What are you supposed to be placing in the envelopes?
The scenario you describe is not instilling any confidence, sad to say

There are 3 likely types of scams involving envelopes:

The first is the "work from home stuffing envelopes" scam which is usually nothing more than a "pay up front" type of scam. They are so common that the FTC has a specific warning about them. http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0112-envelope-stuffing-schemes

The second, more dangerous (and more likely if you are already on the scammers' email lists) involves being a mule for a fake check scam. Some scam gangs dealing with check fraud on a larger scale will include several roles in their scams. They will often have:
-check printer (accomplice or victim) who simply prints the checks and distributes to mules
-reshipping mule who receives and distributes checks for cashing (adds another layer of protection between scammer and ultimate victim)
-victims to cash the fake checks (often victims of job scams)
In addition, they may also have
-ad poster (a victim or accomplice whose "job" is to post ads to recruit people in the other roles.)

The third (less likely) possibility simply involves receiving payments by check or money order from victims and forwarding to the next link in the chain.

Please post the email headers. This is an email-only domain, so we need email headers to prove that the domain is in use. If this latest message is a reply to something you sent, include that with full headers too.

This domain was registered less than a month ago for only one year, and while the registrant's address looks valid, there are hints that he is not actually in Illinois and is using an Internet phone or the like.

The English doesn't look like that of an American either. I get the impression of someone on mainland Europe who learned English as a second language.
