Hello... Longtime scambaiter/419eater that has alerted many friends and coworkers that they are about to get scammed. I have a very good friend that lives in a developing nation (3rd world country doesn't sound that nice) and she's been trying to find work abroad. She got this email and replied to it, even after I told her it was a scam. The manager's name is correct for that hotel, but surely he is not using a Gmail account for company business. I searched the phone number that he listed and I saw it on an online ad selling iPads. My friend continues to correspond with this guy and she said that the minute they ask for money, she'll stop replying. I have told her that it's dangerous to give out any personal information. She's just desperate and willing to take her chances that it's a real job offer. I would love to have additional ammunition from the team here so I can get her to stop wasting her time.

Here is the original email she received :

Numbers that begin with 4470 are international call forwarding numbers. Very likely it will be answered on a cell phone in Nigeria. If you need proof, look up the real number for the hotel, call, and it will be confirmed that the hotel manager is not trying to hire you.

Sorry, obvious scam, no job.

The scammer is asking about a British work permit and visa. Most likely these will be provided by an impostor agency played by the scammer. The real organization that provides documents to enter Great Britain has a domain ending in .gov.uk. As Mumbles said, the phone number is fake, so it's a scam.

The original "application" was a Word document that still had all the editing info intact. The document was written by Kendulite. A quick search for Kendulite brings up the twitter account @kendulite which references the Facebook account Facebook.com/kendulite. Surprise surprise! Nigeria!

If I understand correctly, you're just looking for other things you can point out to show her it is a scam?

- Of course we have the 4470 number as stated above.

- Probably the most important point is that UK has greatly restricted visas, and they have closed the general labor categories entirely. They now ONLY allow skilled workers in specific areas of expertise, high (highly educated) migrants, and very workers in very specific categories. Hotel jobs do NOT fall within that scope. In other words, if you are not in EU, you can't work in a UK hotel. Here is the UK immigration website listing available visas: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... n/working/

-Same scam, different hotel name: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=25959
and again: http://419.bittenus.com/10/10/alexandrafacey.html
and yet another: http://www.ukclassifieds.co.uk/general.1892337.html

There are actually several more, but you get the point.

Thank you for all the backup. I will forward her this thread now and hopefully she will believe me.

And thanks again for all the work you do on these forums.

If you're not an EU citizen basically you can only get a UK work visa either as a high value migrant (rich) or as a highly skilled worker, which doesn't include hotel work.

The actual rules are more complex than that, but that's it in a nutshell. If you don't know the rules, scammers will try to take advantage of you and steal your money.
