Company Representative scams, Payment Processing scams and other Employment scams.

Be warned, I received a job offer from a company called Alma Lasers very similar to this one cited in the forums in 2011:

viewtopic.php?f=34&t=24346

This time they called themselves Alma Lasers. They wanted to talk via Yahoo Messenger (the first tip-off that something wasn't right). Then while I was talking to their HR rep, I called the company to see if someone by his name worked there. Guess what? No one knew him. Real company, false employee. I confronted him with this information in chat, and he didn't even respond. Shocker. Just went on with his shpiel.

They only have my name, address, and the name of my bank (no account info). So I called my bank and had my accounts placed on a fraud watch. Hopefully nothing bad will come of this.

Beware!

The original text message came from (630) 448-7591. Spokeo found where it is from, but not to a specific address. Apparently somewhere in Elburn, Illinois. This was followed up by an e-mail from [email protected] inviting me to a chat session about a potential position with Alma Lasers. The chat session was to be with Mattew Bricks (mattew.bricks). I responded in the affirmative and logged onto Yahoo! Messenger and started a conversation with Mattew Bricks. He went into his routine - info about the company, the position, and how I can work from home if I want. He said he was 52 and was working in Texas. Then he hints at what the position entails (vague allusions to "data entry" of some type). He mentioned how they would send me a laptop to work with, and that I would work from home! Oh yeah, I have to purchase about $500 worth of software to do the job with.

That was the first indication something was weird...who sends off laptops WITHOUT the necessary software (to a total stranger???)? I called the real Alma Lasers while I was chatting with this con artist - and sure enough, there is no one named Mattew Bricks at this company.

Of any particular spelling.

PS...On a more obvious note, he did ask me to send in my name and address to an e-mail. That was all I sent him in the e-mail. He said he received it. Then I got a failure delivery on the e-mail after I stopped chatting with him.
