Company Representative scams, Payment Processing scams and other Employment scams.
by Brandi0190 Sat Jul 27, 2013 10:37 pm
I did the research on the company and it does exist the person also exists and is a person who does work for the company. However the language in the e-mail he sent has sent up a red flag for me. I have been scammed before, and I am very wary of anyone who can't interview me yet, but wants me to start work and pay me. Here is the e-mail he sent. Is this real? I really need a job, but the last scam I was involved in left me in an extreme amount of debt I just got myself out of and I can't do it again.

Thank you!

Brandi

Sorry to say that it looks like a Scam to me. the writing does not look right to me,
the sending of money to a complete stranger feels like an attempt to turn you into a mule.

The company and person may check out but I have a feeling that the scammer is smarter than normal and has done his research

Could you post the headers of the email for us ?

Leave this one alone and good luck in your search for a job.

If you wish you can email me at

Yes it is a scam. re: I'm sure you'll understand i tend to have a very busy schedule at this point as i am presently Out of Town on a business trip, i will be back in three Weeks.
And in the previous paragraph all the tasks you are to do, and yet your employer has not even met you yet! The employer says 'he's out of town on a business trip and will be back in three weeks'. In the meantime a complete stranger is working for him? It all sounds highly fanciful. You would be very wise to give this scam a wide detour and ignore. Much safer to register at a proper employment agency office or outreach type service.

I cannot thank y'all enough for taking the time out to look into this for me!I thought it might be a scam I just didn't know if I was just overly worried because it has happened before or if what I saw would seem sketchy to anyone. I really appreciate the second opinion each of you gave me, and I will heed your warnings and steer clear of future contact with this person! The header of the e-mail was RE:Receptionist Position and it was sent from the e-mail address [email protected].

Thanks again,

Brandi

vfcorp.org is a fake email-only domain that was created barely a month ago. Please post the headers of the email from that address, and the headers of your previous email to it, so that we can kill it.

You've done an excellent job reporting the scam.
The header of the e-mail is the confusing looking part. If you're unclear how to find it, this page clearly explains how. https://kb.mediatemple.net/questions/89 ... message%3F
Then it's easy to copy/ paste the header of the received e-mail into the thread here. But please make sure you remove your e-mail address and name. Otherwise you may be a target of spam.

Over the last couple days I have received emails from Matthew Shattock of VF Corportion 'hiring' me as a result of an ad on Craigslist. At first I thought yeah this is a good thing - I've been out of work with no income for quite a bit of time and am in financial ruins. So there was an exchange of emails the first one being nearly the same as the one posted in the original post of this thread. It wasn't until this last one that I decided to do further investigation.

My first investigations (completed with the first email from them) showed the Matthew Shattock is a real person and a real executive of a real company. Since I could find out so much information on the man and the company I thought well maybe it is legit. Yet something kept nagging at me. I knew if they asked for any credit card or banking information I would be finished with it.

This last email flew up all kinds of reg flags and that where my search began again. The link to your website came up on the very bottom of page two of my search engine. That's not good because I could have missed it and I thank God I didn't. At any rate, here's the 3rd email from this 'corporation' if it is even a real one as far as these emails go -

Hello Xxxxx Xxxxxxx ,

I will be needing you to run some errands between this week and next
week, I do apologise for the short notice.

You should receive a package from USPS or UPS pretty soon I will let
you have the tracking number, the content of the delivery is a
certified business check from one of our clients which you are to use
to cover any expenses such as transportation cost and other expenses
needed to complete the errand.

I need you to have the check deposited with your bank immediately you
receive it. Let me know as soon as the check is deposited so I can
advice you with more information on how to go about the errand okay?

Best regards,
Matthew Shattock

The cheque will be fake and you would certainly be in trouble if you deposited it in your bank

W2s and 1099s do not require signature. That is lie. Just review the copy of W2 you received from your employer... there is no signature on the form.

P.s. employers are not required to file W2 and 1099 during mid-year.
