Several things make me suspicious, the language of the email makes me think this is not someone where English is their main language, and the pay would be well over $30 an hour for something not requiring skill. I am an accountant that placed an employment ad on craigslist. I did a search on payroll scams and this site showed up, so I thought I would share my experience. I have not answered the email and after finding this forum will not.

Hello gstepic and welcome to Scamwarners,
You are correct, this is a scam and not a real offer of employment. Please post the email address the scammer used to contact you as this will help others that may be searching for information on this scam.

It is ALWAYS a scam

The writing style is obviously West African. The phone number appears to be in Richmond, Illinois; where does he claim to be? Please post the headers of the email.

He does not really say where he is from. He goes by Joseph McGuire. The email he uses is [email protected]. I will look for his original emails because I keep thinking he mentioned he was will a payroll company, ADP comes to mind but as I said I will check older emails.

Ok, he did say he was with ADP and he uses a different phone number, I copied his original email below -

Hello,

I`m Joseph McGuire from ADP provides comprehensive payroll services, I did review your resume on craigslist that you are seeking for job. We are looking for someone to work from home as payroll clerk, if you are interested in the position email @ [email protected] or text me 201) 648-5178 .

Thank you

I called our local ADP office and will forward this email and it will get sent to their corporate office. I would love to see these scammers get caught, but I have a feeling it is hard to catch them when operating out of the country.

reflect-grass.us is a fake, email-only domain, registered just ten days ago for only one year. Please post the email you sent to reflect-grass.us and the reply, both with complete headers, so that we can kill it.

Legitimate payroll companies do not hire people to send checks from home. This job is printing fake checks, which are then deposited by money mules, who send the money by Western Union overseas to the scammers.

The bad English and everything else aside, how many businesses have a daily payroll?

I was looking on Craigslist for a job as a Receptionist and had applied at a vet's office and the next day I received an email stating that position was given to someone else but he (Dave Walters) ,which is not the name of anyone from that office, could offer me a job working from home home printing payroll checks all I needed was a computer with Internet and everything else would be supplied. So I was a very desperate idiot and accepted. He asked that I set up a Yahoo Messenger account so that we can chat that way, he said he does payroll for a bunch of different companies he is in England right now and really could use a personal assistant that his companies is trying to go international.
So he has shipped a new printer and blank checks with tons of envelopes. My question now is, what the hell do I do? Obviously this is a scam but now he had sent so what do I do or say? And he sent a $100 printer to the past office for me to pick up but I haven't yet but I have all the checks and everything. He has my mom's address and mine, he has my mom's address because my house number doesn't come up for most delivery trucks.

Welcome to Scamwarners kymm77,

I am happy you learned that this is a scam. A very dangerous/legal scam. Scammers are the only people in the World who believe that a person would trust someone over the internet to handle business money.

The scammer is operating a fake check scam. The checks you will be printing are from a real victims. The scammer will ask you to help him steal from a hacked/stolen Bank Account to produce checks. All the material you will be using to produce the checks were bought with a stolen credit card. The UPS, Fed Ex and USPS accounts that you will using for over night shipping came from stolen account.

Any money you receive will come from other victims.

This is the bad part. Only you will be caught by Law Enforcement. The scammer is using a fake identity, free email address and his IP probably comes from an Internet Café. The police in his country will easily accept bribes to look the other way. Our Law Enforcement stops at our boarders.

What do I do now?
Be proactive. Contact your local Police and the Postal Inspector. Give them your check printing materials, stamps for signatures and all the account information you have on banks and shipping companies. Print out your emails and show them you were scammed. Tell them about the person sending you items. Do not pick up the printer.

Lastly, stop contacting the scammer.

Please contacta moferatorstor if you have a question or information about this post.

Please do not tell the scammer he is posted here.

I'm so scared of getting in trouble with the law for this, not to mention how stupid I feel for falling for this. I mean really what company would have their payroll checks done by someone at home. I kind of knew something was weird cuz the checks weren't being deducted from any central account, I wasn't having to account for anything, for all they knew I could have been writing myself checks of the account number given. I just can't believe it took me so long to figure it out. I don't want to be in trouble with the law, the reason I took the job is cuz I'm a single mom of 3 kids and was wrongfully fired from my job as a medical assistant job in December and seriously have not been able to find a job, I've sent my resume everywhere and applied all over and I just had gotten so desperate for a job I was blinded.
