Company Representative scams, Payment Processing scams and other Employment scams.

I've been looking for a job for a while now so I've seen all kinds of scams out there, but this one was new. I tried to do some research but aside from a very vaguely similar scam in England (deaf man looking for a caregiver for his wife) I haven't been able to turn up anything.

The gist of it is there is a deaf woman who works for a reputable online store in England and needs a personal assistant to handle correspondence and phone calls, etc. Okay, not so strange. The flags:

The initial email from her was to my husband, who unlike me, is a facilities manager, NOT any kind of receptionist/personal assistant/administrative assistant.

The salary. $60,000 a year in the first email, $4,000 a month in the second. Fluctuation aside, she isn't asking for any experience in the personal assistant field OR experience in working with a special needs individual.

The detailed description of who this person is looking for is very vague. No deaf-mute equipment listed at all.

The second email focuses primarily on who she works for and how so very legitimate and well-established they are. I have contacted the company asking if this individual works for them but have not yet received a reply. She claims she is co-finance director, so it should be relatively easy for them to verify.

The originating IP is owned by Comcast Business in New Jersey.

She says she is looking for a personal assistant, but the "we"s start getting tossed around in the second email. Who is we?

It could be legit. I've seen stranger help wanted legitimate advertisements. But something about this is making my scammy-sense tingly.

My husband did not reply, but he forwarded it to me as a "hey, can't hurt to check it out" type of thing. She did reply, but to him, not to my email directly.

About

Discretion, quality, and craftsmanship -Bottega Veneta has created a new standard of luxury since its founding in Vicenza in 1966. Steeped in the traditions of Italy’s master leather craftsmen and long celebrated for its extraordinary leather goods, Bottega Veneta has recently emerged as one of the world’s premier luxury brands. The company’s famous motto, “When your own initials are enough,” expresses a philosophy of individuality and confidence that now applies to a range of products including women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, fine jewellery, furniture, and more.

While Bottega Veneta continues to grow, the qualities that define it are unchanging: outstanding craftsmanship, innovative design, contemporary functionality and the highest quality materials. Also constant is Bottega Veneta’s commitment to its ateliers, where artisans of remarkable skill combine traditional mastery with breathtaking innovation. Indeed, there is an unusual and inspired collaboration between artisan and designer at the heart of Bottega Veneta’s approach to luxury, symbolised by the house’s signature intrecciato woven leather. In the summer of 2006, in recognition of the importance of artisanal craftsmanship and the fragility of this traditional way of life, Bottega Veneta opened a school to train and support future generations of leather artisans.

The most recent chapter in Bottega Veneta’s history began in February 2001, when the company was acquired by KERING Luxury Group, formerly known as Gucci Group. Creative Director Tomas Maier came on board in June of that year and presented his first collection, Spring-Summer 2002, to immediate critical acclaim. From the start, the house’s sensibility was refined, sensuous and intensely personal, designed for a customer who is sophisticated and self-assured. In the years since, Bottega Veneta has introduced exciting additions to the collection, including fragrance, fine jewellery, a watch, furniture, and home accessories, while continuing to offer an exclusive and coveted assortment of ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, small leather goods, eyewear, luggage, and gifts.

Distribution of Bottega Veneta products is global, encompassing Europe, Australia, Asia, North and South America, where wholesale distribution in select speciality and department stores is complemented by a growing number of Bottega Veneta-owned boutiques. These boutiques, designed by Tomas Maier and meticulously constructed to Bottega Veneta’s exacting standards, allow the customer to shop in complete luxury, privacy, and comfort. They are, like the products they showcase, a reflection of Bottega Veneta’s exceptional heritage and superlative quality.

It is a money mule scam - the following gives it away

To receive payments from our customers which are mainly under the form of checks (only U.S. emitted checks, no international checks will be sent to you);
To Keep track of the payments received and offer daily reports on those payments;
To deposit the checks in your existing bank account and receive cash funds in return;
To Forward the funds under the form of a money transfer to Bottega Venetaemployees

The website is legitimate, but has nothing to do with the people contacting you.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Yeah, using the legit websites is a big thing now. Bah.

Thanks for the confirmation on the money-mule aspect of it. Glad to know I'm not just being paranoid!
