I have just received an email offer of employment from these people passing themselves off as HR Management in PETRONAS. No oil/gas co. anywhere in the world makes a prospective employee pay up front for their visa, employment, or travel costs. These are ALWAYS paid for, by the co. Also, PETRONAS is a legitimate co. in Malaysia. It IS owned by the Malaysian Gov't. Unfortunately these scam artists are using PETRONAS information to make themselves look legit. As for employers doing a face to face interview all of the time - no, they don't. I was hired to work in the Middle East based upon resume, work experience and numerous telephone calls. So were the majority of the Western Hire employees. I don't know of one who travelled on their own dime to the Middle East to find employment as a Western Hire. Same goes for Afghanistan. All contract work over there, as for Africa, is done via email, telephone and maybe a Skype call. But that's it. It's not done face to face.
