**Becoming a mystery shopper
Recruitment: Initially, we will add you to our database of Mystery Shoppers.
Then, when we need someone in your area who matches your profile, we'll give you

a call and describe the project to see if you are interested. Sometimes a local
supervisor will arrange to meet you for a mini-
interview - sometimes we will do that by 'phone. Sometimes we ask you to carry
out a 'dummy' Mystery Shop so we can check your ability to provide clear and
objective reports, however If you have been a Mystery Shopper before or have
been recommended by someone we know, this may not be necessary.

Assignments: Some assignments are one-off, taking maybe an hour or so of your
time, some are virtually full-time. Some will need only a written or telephone
briefing; others will need you to attend a training session. While some
assignments may seem attractive - for example, an aircraft journey or a meal in
a restaurant - all require a conscientious and diligent approach. You will not
be able to sit back and enjoy the flight or meal because you will be constantly
taking mental notes and discreetly jotting down key notes when the opportunity
arises.

rates may vary if we need people with specific attributes such as professional
expertise. We will also tell you how much we will pay for travel and any
spending limits which apply. If you are able to make a purchase and the goods
would be something you would normally buy anyway, you may be able to keep the
goods in lieu of payment. If the goods need to be returned, we will advise you
of the arrangement we have made.

Dear Ms. Freeman,

Thank-you for your patience; in waiting for my report. While you were interview me I was testing you. I was wondering why the check was so high $1,335.00 I deposited the money into my account 7/8/11; after I received the check in the mail. I deposited the check because I was not going to be out any money if it turned out not to be a good check. I wanted to see if the check would clear my bank. Is this what you were looking for? If you have any question or need additional information let me know. Thanks for the opportunity; and have a great day!

Welcome Cheryl Lynn!

I just want to make sure that you understand--this Secret Shopper job is a scam, as are all secret shopper jobs involving advance payments or salaries of hundreds of dollars. Real secret shopper jobs require more work, pay much less, and you will never be paid in advance. In a real secret shopper job, you do the shopping, complete the (extensive) report, and after submitting your report, typically wait several weeks for a payment that will be under $100.

There is no job, and nobody is looking for an evaluation. The whole purpose of this bogus job is to trick you into cashing fake checks or receiving stolen money and sending cash to the scammer. In the end, all checks will bounce, and any other sources of money will be found to be fraudulent, and you will be on the hook for the cash, any fines, and the crime (check fraud and receiving/forwarding stolen money and goods are both serious crimes that can land you in jail).

Unfortunately, assuming the money has already been picked up, it won't happen. If the Florida name is real, the recipient in Florida is most likely another scam victim who thinks he/she has a job collecting payments (or it is an accomplice of the scammer who will be using fake ID). He/she then forwarded the money to the scammer in Africa or Malaysia, where the scammer really is. The scammer himself has used completely fake names and information with you. He will be working out of a cafe used by hundreds, if not thousands, of people. He has simply grabbed the cash from the scam (undoubtedly using fake ID) and walked away. Our law enforcement can't do anything, and international investigations are extremely expensive and politically complicated--in most cases, unless the scammer is already under investigation, you would have had to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars before an international investigation would even be considered.

You should report the fraud to IC3 (www.ic3.gov), as they are the agency responsible for handling international internet crimes, but again, the truth is you should not expect that you will ever see your money again.

FYI--you may have learned it now, but in case you haven't: a check is not "cleared" when the bank gives you cash for it. It can actually take weeks to months before processing is actually complete or the real account owner detects the fraud, and even after that length of time, the bank can come after you. The scammer told you not to use a check cashing place because a check cashing place would actually be more likely to recognize the fraud.
