employment letter

What to do when employer says he needs a copy of your ID for employment letter? Is this a standard procedure in Great Britain?

I have had to provide proof of identity on arrival for my first day at work in the UK.

However, I suspect that you are not in the UK and have not yet met your employer. So I think you should provide a little more information before we can give you a proper answer.

I'm not in UK yet and I haven't met my employer in person. I applied for a nanny job, after which I was contacted from HR manager. He told me after going through my CV that I could work as a administrator assistant instead. This is his offer "Talbot House

I just don't want someone to steal my identity

OK, I have a bad feeling about this.

1) The domain (website) http://cape-homecare.co.uk was registered on 30th June 2012 for 2 years only so
a) it has not been around too long and b) they are not expecting to be around for long

2) The website says

Cape Homecare is the trading name of Cape Healthcare Limited, a company registered in England registration number 8118914

2) There is a UK registered company of this name/number but a look at the UK Companies House website here

So I would be very careful. If thay ask for ANY kind of payment in advance of you starting work - for visa, travel, CRB check, qualification, certification, registration etc etc IT WILL BE A SCAM
and they have no need of proof of ID until you turn up to start work
