Company Representative scams, Payment Processing scams and other Employment scams.

Recently got scammed and wanted to share the knowledge. Was contacted by a recruiter for a position that was tailored to my interest. While "Huron Consulting" is legit, "Huron Consulting & Search" is a scam. I believe there are similar scams like this, where the scammer pretends to be a branch of a well-respected company. Another similar scam reported is from "Boston Consulting & Search."

Recruiter asks you to fill out a pre-questionnaire application/pre-skill assessment test/references and also asks you to schedule a phone interview on his calendar. Seemed pretty legit until you got to the pre-assessment test. You are then prompted to purchase a $19.99 study guide from jumbabooks.com that will help you prepare for the placement test. The skill assessment test was pretty legit and the questions were what you would take for the certification exam. I finally believed it was a scam when no one called during the scheduled phone interview time. Looking back, I should have been tipped off when the scammer repeated "we are having email and phone difficulties." Oh right, because the contact information isn't real... Lost my common sense in the tough job market right now.

Here is an original email for those curious:
Just sending a quick message to let you know that I am still processing your information and you are still being considered for the Industrial Hygienist opening. However, before our call, I need to make sure your file is complete:

Yes Jumba Books at http://www.jumbabooks.com appears to be a rip-off of the legitimate but inactive The StudyGuide.com at http://www.thestudyguide.com

The jumbabooks.com site was registered on 30th September 2013 for 1 year only by someone giving a non-existant address in San Antonio, Texas

I got the same email and felt as if they were real, I did the pre employment, took the test, scheduled a phone interview and never heard from them again and.....I began to worry a bit and began to do research, should have done the research first, but was excited about the possibility of a job......

Thank you for confirming this! The publishing company of the study guide does not exist so I do not know where they got the study guide from. The publishing company is the "Study Guide Warehouse." I am not sure if I should delete the pdf file because the information seemed to be from reputable sources..

I found another thread for these study guide scams that you can find below:

Yes, it is scary how real the job offer seemed because of the effort that was put into making the smoke and mirrors.. :?
