Very possible job scam, already sent out resume

Hello,

I'm writing here because I've done something unbelievably stupid and I am now very worried. I'm currently very desperate for a job, and decided to try and look for jobs on Kijiji. Against my better judgment, I'm now pretty sure I sent out my resume to a scammer. For one thing it was a gmail account, and there was no mention of an address, and when I actually decided to do research on the company, I saw no mention of jobs, only volunteer work and obviously they did not have the same email I sent my resume to.

I'm just very worried about what a scammer can do with my name and address and phone number, and I want to know what I can do on my end to prevent anything like identity theft.

Name, address, and phone number is not sufficient information to commit identity theft, and those scammers are generally not trying to commit identity theft anyway. If you get a response, please post it here.

I did try to call the hotel about this interview, but the receptionist didn't seem sure and told me that a manager would call me back tomorrow. I'm really scared now, and my gut (which I should've listened to before) is obviously telling not to go anyways. I'm not sure what to do now. Is this just an elaborate scam to get my information? I've been reading that people are told to go to physical interviews, only to find out it was bait to sign up for something else.

Scammers don't typically set up interviews. At least not outside of where they live and scam from.

Did you call the actual hotel, or did you call a number supplied in an email?

Scammers are typically after a quick score of money. I recommend that you call the hotel using a number that you legitimately obtained and confirm the email message.

Your other option would be to stop all communication with this person and let it drop.

Yeah, I called the number that was on the hotel's official website. I really do hope I'm just being overly paranoid, but since I now know that the job posting is fake because the information is impersonating the actual company (as I foolishly didn't think to check it out before applying), which is officially looking for volunteer work and not paying jobs, and doesn't use gmail accounts, I can't help but be worried.

I think I'll just ignore them, but I'll let the hotel and actual company know, and hopefully everything will be fine.

nemu, you are doing the best things possible. I am sorry this wasn't a real job or something that would work for you. As was said above, there is little a scammer can do with your name and phone number. They may call you, but you can ignore them, block them or assign no ring tone to their number.
