This is not only a scam. It is most likely criminal activity.

In this type of scam, the bank accounts the checks are drawn on are generally fake, phished, or stolen. By printing a check and sending it to a third party, you are either committing fraud or theft, and you can actually be prosecuted. The person who receives and cashes the check is also open to prosecution.

The best way to avoid these scams is to understand that any job offer you receive that involves printing checks, sending checks, or receiving payments and forwarding to someone else is going to be a scam.

Hi -

This is Ian from ZipRecruiter. Just wanted to let you know that as soon as this scam was reported, we immediately removed the listing and blocked the poster from seeing any of the applicants who came in.

We take fighting scam listings seriously and are developing increasingly sophisticated tools to detect these posts before they hit the job boards.

Yes, I just watched a video on youtube about a guy that was doing this scam. They arrested the guy printing and sending out the checks via UPS. If you signed up to "work" for this company, you'll be arrested on hundreds of federal charges.

Ziprecruiter, I'd send the account details to the FBI and Secret Service for the account that created that "job" listing. Hope you captured the IP of whoever posted it, might help them locate them. Though, they are probably in Nigeria...
